Hi new to this.  We bought a puppy from a breeder, we had him for 10 days.  He died  on thursday night.  His little body has gone to Royal Vets for post mortem.  If it had been me selling the puppies I would have had the decency to  refund  the money to the purchaser, I have not had any such offer.  Do I have any rights?

Scottydog - I am really sorry to read your post - although you only had your puppy for 10 days, you must be devastated.

Did you buy your puppy from a breeder?   If so, did you get a contract?

I am afraid it is all going to come down to just how reputable your breeder is/was.

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. I'm assuming you've told the breeder that he's died, and that there's being a post-mortem done? What happens next depends on the result of that postmortem, but if it shows that the pup was ill before you bought him then you would be entitled to your money back.

The other thing i wonder is . Did you get any insurance with the puppy  from the breeder with the kc documents

Firstly sorry about your pup.
Wait until the results of the post mortem. If there is a problem then contact Trading Standards as sadly dogs come under the Sales of Goods Act (horrible term isn't it!) They will help you if there is a case to answer.

depends on what the pm  tells you. pups are covered by the sale of goods acct. if pup was not of merchandisable quality, and not to the standard expected for a puppy.....and trading standards will help you with that....then you hav the same rights you would have buying ang faulty item. if PM shows pups dies for some reason due to you or your negligence then nothing you can do obviously. if all else fails the kc insurance it came with should pay.

I presume the breeder may be waiting for the PM report before offering anything?

Yes, I agree.

The breeder of this pup must be devastated that the pup they bred is dead, 10 days after leaving their home. Until the PM results none of you know what has caused this poor pups death so they are right to hold off any talk of refunds at present they too need a copy of the PM results before any decisions are made.

I take it on collection the pup was in good outwardly health otherwise you would have run a mile and that the pup must also have had a full veterinary check and passed with flying colours when it was innoculated, you've not mentioned any illness (at present) just that the pup died 10 days after ownership so I take it this was sudden.

There are so many reasons the pup could have died and many of those reason are completely unrelated to the breeder or their lines.

So this will have to be a wait and see game, once the results are in things will be clearer for yourself and the breeder.

So very sorry, how sad for you and the poor wee pup.
