my friends dog came to visit yesterday and sourced a kong under the coffee table that one of mine had mislaid! I didn't think anything of it and threw it up onto the sofa for my staffy who was delighted. Later in the evening both dogs were in the living room so I put the kong up on the side and when I went to move it today there was loads of maggots under it - I almost vomited!
so, I then went to the sofa and checked the dogs blanket and there was maggots on that and down the side/back of the cushions. I hoovered it up but want to spray something to make sure they are definitely gone but can't find anything that is safe to spray on leather. I got a new miele vacuum the other week but there was no way I was going to use that so the old dyson came in handy and will be suitably disinfected. I am currently cleaning anything that moves but can't use fly spray on fabrics and have sprayed dettol even though it says not to use it on fabrics. Any tips for anything I can use on it?
there are so many flys about just now that every bone the dogs have seems to end up with the dirty beasts on it. the pup even had maggots in his cage the other week after bringing an old bone from the garden in and hoarding it in his cage. I am on a cleaning mission and am so thankful I don't have carpets downstairs and have a leather rather than fabric suite.
I am usually a total clean freak so this is not normal and is totally giving me the heave. The horrible side of dog ownership and having a garden for the hounds to play in.

Do you have a dishwasher? If so, pop the kongs in there from time to time! Every so often I put all the dog bowls in the dishwasher and give them a really high temp wash ......they're stainless steel and don't really need it, but I feel happier after doing it.

I don't have a dishwasher :( I am thinking now of spraying everything with mistral and washing the dogs bowls, kongs etc in a hot solution of that. All the dogs bedding has gone in the wash with loads of mistral in the wash just in case. I am itching all over at the thought of those dirty little beasts in my house. Kim and Aggie would have a field day - dirty little dog owner!

I would use lots of boiling water and washing up liquid. Dont worry we wont tell kim and aggie LOL You could also pop the kongs in the washing macxhine with the dogs bedding I have put the dogs raggys in the machine occasionally to get them clean. Mind unless you put it on 90c boiling water first may be best

Nasty very nasty....:-)

Oh my god!!!
Just going to check the dogs kongs!!

my boys left one in the garden one and when it was eventually "unearthed" a mouse (or rat!) had nibbled all round the outside of the hole so they could get to whatever food was in there !!

Soak the kongs in Milton. If it's good enough for babies' bottles it's good enough for carrion-eating dogs!

Noooooooooo!!
(((( Save the maggots! )))))
Put them in different coloured
powder paint over night and in the morning they will have turned the colour of which ever powder paint they were in!! .... and then..... hours of fun for all the family playing Maggot racing!! :-D
Oooooooh *screen goes all blurry and the Hovis theme tune plays in the background* I used to have great fun with my dad as child maggot racing!! (
He really wanted a boy didn't he.....

you lot are vile! Don't you know I am having a trauma?
I don't have any milton so in the interests of getting it done quick everything was washed with a very hot solution of bubblegum odorkill. I had originally been planning to order in chinese for tea but rice like maggots put paid to that one.

It only takes 24 hours for flies to lay eggs & turn into maggots

I am wetting myself laughing here!!!!! :-)
This happened to me once when I forgot about my the little treats in my bait bag and imagine my surprise when I got to the next show and stuck my heand in the bag!! I always remember to empty my bait bag now after a show!
Urghh what a topic LOL. I hate maggots they make my hair prickle. Can't stand flies either, dirty things. I get a sadistic pleasure in the summer with my can of fly spray.
A reason not to do housework - spiders webs are the best fly trappers :-)
