Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / PMSG-Intervet, has anyone experience in kick starting sperm?

Today my lad was deemed not to be producing sperm (3 years old and already sired litters). It has been suggested that a possible course of action to kick start the production of sperm might be a course of PMSG injections, with a 50% success rate.
Has anyone experience of using these injections to kick start sperm production?  If so, comments would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

To be honest I would be very wary of trying anything like that in case this early decline in fertility is a trait that might be passed on.

If the sterility is temporary as can happen a few months after a dog had been overheated, then it will resolve and no harm done other than having to wait up to three months for new sperm to start their development.

Are you sure he is not producing sperm.Dogs are easily capable of switching off and with holding ejaculation of the sperm  but still produce first and third fraction.

Definitely not producing sperm, this has been tested.  Not a result of overheating ... if it had been there would be some sperm life there.  We have none at all.  I'm not going to go down any route involving hormones without much thought, and obviously I cannot do so without veterinary assistance.  I just want to know if anyone has any actual experience of this and the outcome.  It's not a heriditary trait, that has been totally ruled out, both sides of the parentage, and grand parents, great grand, etc, are from very proven stud dogs.
Anyone personal experience of PMSG?  Thanks.

What about the male siblings of the ancestors on both sides of the pedigree? Are the dam's brothers all fertile, for example?

Hi, hereditary fertility problem definitely ruled out, thanks.

When you say he is not producing "sperm" could you elaborate a little more?
For example is he just producing fluid with no semen or is he not producing anything at all.
In answer to you question I would not recommend injection with PMSG
