I HAVE A NINE WEEK OLD COCKER SPANIEL PUPPY, WHICH I AM HOPING TO SHOW.
DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY TIPS/ADVICE ON WHAT IS THE BEST FOOD TO FEED HER ON AND ANY TRAINING TIPS FOR THE SHOW RING?

Hi Kelly, if you let us know whereabouts you are, someone should know of suitable ringcraft classes for you, we have a few in my area West of Scotland. I feed my dogs a natural diet that you can get from AMP Productsthey will send some free samples for you to try. www.prizechoice.co.uk remember and say its a young puppy.

THANKS, I AM IN NORFOLK, I HAVE FOUND OUT WHERE THERE IS A RING CRAFT CLASS, BUT IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN PRACTISE NOW, AS I CANNOT TAKE HER UNTIL SHE HAS COMPLETED HER JABS. I HAVE BEEN PUTTING HER ON A TABLE AND TRYING TO GET HER USED TO THE LEAD, WHICH SHE INSISTS ON CHEWING!!!

Hi Kelly

Carry on standing her on a table, going over her body with your hands, checking her teeth and little walks up the garden on her lead to start off with. You don't really want to do too much with a pup so young but this will be good practice :D :D

Hi Kelly

I agree with Derryn - don't do too much with your puppy, she really is just a baby. I don't start really training our show Cocker pups until they are quite a bit older than 9 weeks. Once they have had their jabs, it's more important that they get plenty of socialisation rather than formal training - often the first weeks at ringcraft will be spent just sitting with the puppy, letting him/her take it all in. By all means, start standing your pup on the table for short periods but don't do too much. You should also start regular grooming sessions, getting your pup used to the brush/comb (even though she won't have much coat yet) as show Cockers when they get older need a lot of time spent on grooming/trimming. Hopefully, your breeder will advise you on this aspect, as well as on things like your puppy's diet

Good Luck

Hi Kelly

Welcome to Champdogs :) :D

The best person to ask about your Puppy is the Breeder that you brought her from. She will be able to advise you on what food is best for her. Most Breeders nowadays always provide some food when Buyers pick up there pups in a puppy pack :) She will also be able to tell you where your nearest ringcraft class is (this is the place you will take Holly to for training for Showing).

Let us know if you need any further info.

Best wishes

Hi Ebony, when you do start Ringcraft let me know how you get on. I've just started taking my 4 month old cocker and all he wants to do is sit when he should be standing! And as for the walking on the mat - last week some dog dared to leave a crumb and when we got near to it, he would go off on a tangent! Typical cocker eh?
