Topic Dog Boards / General / Training classes for flat coat

Hi

I am hoping to take my Flat Coat puppy to training classes in a few months, I would really like to take him to a trainer that works with retrievers. When we trained our Goldie, a couple of years age, the trainer was a police dog handler and used to German Shepherds. I felt some of his methods were unsuitable for retrievers.
We are also interested in field trials at a later date and would love to know where to find out about it.
I live in Surrey, (Bagshot), and info would be great.

Hi Sam,

Both JoFlatcoat and Briedog live down your way, with several flatcoats each. I'm sure they will advise you of good general training and gundog classes in your area when they get a chance. Good luck with your youngster. I'm sure you will have years of fun with him. How old is he?

You ideally placed! The Flatcoated Retriever Society runs a Surrey training group ring Sue on 01628 825691 for details. They are very highly reccomended. You wll learn a lot and have fun at the same time. Jill Whitwell is the person running it, but I do not have her number to hand. Sue helps her with training classes.

Yes, welcome to the crazy world of flatcoat training! We do actually take it seriously........most of the time!!

As well as the Surrey group training, which is excellent, and with people dedicated to the breed, we do have some private trainers who know how the breed ticks as well. Start with the Surrey training, then progress on as the bug bites!

You are welcome to e-mail me as well to get numbers if you like - bit wary of handing them out on lists!!
