My boy had it for about a week. Not sure there is anything you can do to speed up recovery.

My friends lab had it for nearly 2 weeks, some people give anti flammatory's and put warm packs on the tail.

Sam, my friends took there lab to the vets, as they thought she has broken her tail, when landing in the water, she was in pain with it.

My Gordon probably had it for about two weeks to be honest - slowly got his wag back but still flat and affected his agility for a bit - put him on the low jumps.  No tips - make sure dry off after walks and I did get some pain killers for him as he did look in discomfort.  This too wasn't swimming induced just a very long enjoyable walk (and those who know Max know his tail does not stop wagging - so he had really enjoyed this walk!)
