A few weeks back our re-homing centre had a call from the police station. Two young fellas had rescued a dog from the river could we collect it. We did and took him straight to the vets for treatment. He was there about a week getting some minor ailments tended to and getting neutered.
Well he has been doing well but has a problem with his heart.
Our centre did a day out at the local shopping mall where we take dogs in for the public to see and to talk about others who need homes.
Today we had a young collie pup who did wonderful. Then we had a staffie type who was only able to stay a short time because of a funny tummy (she has recently been put on special diet and her poo's are unpleasant). So we thought one of the oldies could go up for the last 20 minutes.
Everyone LOVED him...a little terrier cross who is quite old and shakes (so we called him Elvis). He was about to come back when the girls were approached by a woman who said he looked like her dog. She said where it had been lost and when (both matched our info). Turns out the ol' man is 17 and had wandered off because he seems to have doggie dementia. Hopefully the owners will be coming up in a day or two to claim him.
He has been with us nearly 2 months.

If he had been mine, I would have wanted to take him as soon as all the paperwork was filled in/red tape sorted!!!

Oh I do so hope they will collect him - then it really will be a lovely ending :)

Surely it's a little bizarre to castrate a clearly elderly dog who hadn't even been with you a week? If my dog had gone missing and his finder had him castrated within that time I'd be furious with them.

Thank goodness his owners managed to track him down - perhaps your rescue should put up 'found' posters at the shopping mall on a routine basis to hopefully speed up the reunion of dogs and owners.

You are right. But it was the vets who did it. When we went to collect him they already had it done. As far as I know he had something wrong    with his bits and they decided they were better coming off. We didn't know his age at the time. We knew he was an old boy but no idea he was quite that old.
So hopefully they will come for him and he can spend his days at home rather in a kennel as not many want a boy as old as that even if he is cute..
Cheers

Poor old boy - I hope he is reunited with his owners soon.

Old man went home today. So good ending. Hopefully they will keep a better eye on him so he wont wander again.
I think he is used up quite a few of his 9 lives...

Cheers
