Would you take a litter of pups, still with mum to a dog show. I saw and heard one recently actually at a show and was quite shocked

no, I dont even attend dog shows when I have a litter.

I certainly wouldnt dream of taking a litter to a show, I wont even take a bitch once she's been mated and if I do go to show with another dog, they are kept away from the litter and I change all clothes etc before going anywhere near litter.

Nope.  The only way that this would happen I would think is if the people are traders at the shows as i have seen this happen.

Certainly not, unbelievable!

It's weird because I've shown for over 25 years and the only time I've ever seen it, is as I've said if the owners are stand holders at champ shows and they are usually toys, but old enough to have had at least their first vaccination. 

I've seen it too at companion shows, litters of chi's in their prams..

Yesterday I saw it with my own eyes, a trolley partitioned off, litter and  mum in one side and the dogs she was showing in the other. It doesnt matter to me whether they are toy breeds or larger breeds, the owner/breeder in my opinion should not be doing it as they are risking the mum and the litter.

But surely it is against showing regs. anyway?  Why on earth are the secretary/committee not acting if this sort of thing is being seen often?  Would imagine the Field Officer would go off the deep end with the secretary if he saw a bitch and litter within the precincts of a show?  Can honestly say (and I show a toy breed) I have never seen it, so it isn't happening in my part of the world.  Can't understand why anyone would be stupid enough to put a litter at such risk.

I have unfortunatley seen it, an exhibitor insisted on bringing a litter of pups and mother too 4 general ch shows, the exhibitors in the same breed and at the last show she was caught.  However all that happened was she was asked to leave !!!

I was furious, IMO she should have been KC, what about those poor puppies, travelling 100's of miles, just so she could win a bloody card !!.

How on earth do they get an unentered dog and a whole litter into a champ show with the paperwork.  I know at some shows the security staff arent as good as others but surely they would need some kind of pass.

I have never seen it in a show but have heard of litters being in cars, which in my mind is even worse, but as I said before I wouldnt dream of it.

Exactly (guess technically speaking the pups are unentered dogs!! AND under 4 or 6 mths depending on type of show) -and if you can be fined for having a bitch whelp at a show, surely there is no difference in bringing a bitch with pups to a show? The reasons are the same -the stress to the bitch and the risk of infection.  Shouldn't people who witness this report them to the KC?

i have a friend who took a litter of orphan piglets to a show once while hand rearing them....she brought them in one at a time under her jumper for bottle feeding!! :)

Oh no.  Really would have to think twice about going to a show with a litter at home (even with husband looking after them), would worry too much about infection :-(
