Topic Other Boards / Foo / Shoes to die for!
- By Merlot [hu] Date 15.09.09 10:57 UTC
Following on from the PJ'S thread, how many of you find it hard to get nice shoes for  (Middle aged) women? I have poorley knees but would like some nice fasionable shoes that I can wear. The shops are full of "To die For" shoes that should be sold with a hand rail round them!! they are very pretty lots of them with nice detail etc. but impossible for me to wear. I can cope with a medium heel say 1- 1 1/2 inches but the shoes in that range are all very plain and boring, sensible court type shoes. I too would like flounces and bows sometimes but coupled with a heel that is not going to cripple me any more than I already am!
I see these women tottering about in 6 inch heels and cringe. They get on the dance floor and can manage no more than a shuffle about in danger of toppling over at the drop of a hat! I may be 53 but there is life in the old dog yet and much as I like a flatty to potter about in I would like the option to dress my feet up a bit on occasion so come on shoe designers (Are you listening Jimmy Choo?) lest have something nice for those of us who need a smaller heel.

Jimmy choo do some lovely lower heeled shoes in the "Classic" range..about 3 inches high, i'm just under 6 foot tall and have a lovely pair of choo boots with 3 inch stiletto type heel.

Louboutin also have some mid range height heels in this seasons autumn collection...they start at about 1 inch high so perfect for you :)

I have always said that, when (**when** :D) I win the lottery, I am going to devote a complete wall to shelves with the prettiest, sexiest shoes that I can find .....all in my size but which, unfortunately, I am now unable to wear :(

I'm a stiletto-heeled, winklepicker toed child of the late 50s/60s .....we'd wear them all the time (including 9months preggers) and then went on to wear the knee-high white kinky boots/platformed soles (broke my ankle wearing those!).

Sadly, at 65, I'm limited to having to have "taxi shoes" with 3in heels at the highest ....otherwise its crocs/trainers and M & S footglove boot shoes!

aahhh, sharp intake of breath, don't knock The CHOO!! lol  (Joking of course).
However, I'm not joking when I say I sadly promised myself a pair of the Manolo's and now have them, beautiful, simple, elegant, and they are actually surprisingly comfortable.  I have, however, a collection of very pretty shoes, which have taken years to acquire (and weren't extortionately priced!), simply because I wanted to make sure they are all 'easy' to wear.
Though I agree that a lot of shoes could be made to be more comfortable.
One of the comfiest pairs I had for work, were M&S Footgloves.  Lovely. :-)

Clarkes and the mail order company Hotter ( take at look at the boots and heels section) have a few better options atm  ( would love Jimmy choo's but the bank wont allow!. I agree its not easy my feet dont like the high heels any more  and they have got wide aswell.Hate looking so frumpy. Mind primark have a few pairs of cheap flat boats if you can wear straight jeans or leggings.
I cant yet still trying to lose enough weight !

For those of us who havent won the lottery ;) New Look do small heeled nice shoes, although if you are size 5 or under like my friend who cant wear heels, she gets her shoes from the kids section in shoe shops, she has got some really pretty shoes and wedges and none of them more than 2 inches in height.

Try "Shoon shoes" you can get on line, plus Hotters and "Love those Shoes" I also live Pavers, FlyFlot are really comfortable. I am a shoe freak and I have loads and loads and I cant wear heels anymore but I do have some Shoon shoes in a black suede to die for but they are not cheap.
Best sandles for walking are Merrels same as my walking boots, just got some new Hotter suede boots, plus Clarkes airware for walking.
I also like my crocs for in the car and I use Birkenstocks for the office, got another pair of Hotters on order to wear with slacks this winter.

My Aunt has all my older shoes that when worn were not comfy. OH puts up with it because I dont buy hoards of clothes, or drink.
But check out those three web sites!! Jimmy Choo about 20 years younger I would have them instead I live through eiother Helen or Sophia who wear them one a size 4 and one a 5. Im 6.5 or 7's.

Toadd I have osteoathritis in both knees no problem, but no heels either, a small wedge is the best I can wear. Oh and whilst thinking our Scholl shop in Winchester has some lovely shoes as well.

I'm middle aged but love shoes and have some inappropriate ones, some I wear once and never again, but I actually get enjoyment out of owning them and looking at them.
