We don't have much of a garden, it's a decked area 10ft square. I had decided to make it look a little more garden-like for the pub smokers so I started to grow a few herbs. As a gift, one customer gave me a small chilli plant about 10cm high. It grew and was bordering on 2ft high with lots of little flowers and 6 green chillies. Im not green fingered in the slightest so was very proud of my achievement, so much so that I bought another one with a different kind of chillies on. I have come downstairs to water the plants and someone has stolen the whole lot :( I know they are just plants but I'm really quite upset about it. They have taken all my herbs, a parsely, mint, basil & rosemary and both of the chilli plants. I can't understand why anyone would do that. Why would someone want my plants in their battered plastic pots!

That's awful, I know what it's like to be non-green fingered, finally manage to grow something only to lose it. I had a little twisted ficcus plant that I managed to keep alive and grow, I put it outside one day for some sun and when I came home it was gone :(
A neighbour in my old village once had two potted bay trees stolen from outside her front door, she reported that to the police though because she'd paid quite a lot for them.

so have they had to come into your garden via gate or anything to steal them, if so i would mention it to the police anyway because of the uneasy feeling that someone has been that close and in your garden in the middle of that night lets say. When we moved to our house some 10 years ago now i know that someone came in the night with a van and actually dug up all the plants in the show house garden and took them away ! I love my garden and love all my plants and it would do my head in if anyone done anything to my plants, how distressing for you the thought that someone has the damn cheek just to help themselves to your stuff

Unfortunately some people will nick anything , they just can't walk away from a freebie .

i know how you feel lasy year someone walked down my drive and stole my hanging baskets in broad daylight, i was fuming, in fact i was so mad i phoned the police (obviously not 999) which probably sounds petty but i was so cross that someone had the nerve to take MY plants while i was in, and more annoyed to think that i am quite nosey LOL and i didn't see them.

some people have no shame! I hope who ever stole the chilli plant went to the toilet and rubbed their eyes after touching your plant.

When I was getting ready to move home 2 years ago I added to my stock of pots and tubs with 2 lovely "Box ball" and a few other small tubs. Also had a bit of a collection of "interesting" tubs and things to put the plants in after move - old watering can, small tin bath, big old pans, was planning on creating an interesting potted kitchen garden by re-planting my potted herbs inot them. Came back from a show to find the new box balls and all the larger metal posts and things had been nicked. Strangely they did not take the 3 big box topiaries which I had been nurturing for years.
The last time I was having a new kitchen fitted someone come into the garden and stole the old kitchen sink! Our garden cant really be seen from the road so goodness knows how they knew it was there or why they'd want it.
A big building site we were working on had 20 full bathrooms knicked one night, someone knew they had all been delivered and went back that night and took the lot!
We had a site in Farnborough and we lost £6000 worth of plant we had it in a locked, alarmed compond with CCTV and this little white van drove in and knicked the lot. We replaced it they did it again so we had to stick the stuff in vans and take it to and fro.
But walking up your drive or in your gate thats dispicable.
I can't understand why anyone would do that. Why would someone want my plants in their battered plastic pots!your not from my area are you!
if its not nailed down around here they'll nick it,
we caught some boys trying to steal the wheels off my car 3 nights ago lucky for us we were in bed and have a cctv camara focused on the car all the times case they knick the whole thing, anyway and we had the tv on so we saw them called the police and waited but once the boys had undone the last wheel nuts we just had to get out the window and holler at them as they'd have been gone with my wheels before the police even got here, they ran off leaving their tools and a lot of bricks which i assume they were gonna leave my car standing on had they got my wheels off , they police never come till sunday morning lot of good they were,
Our garden cant really be seen from the road so goodness knows how they knew it was thereyou'd be suprised if you see just goes on while your sleeping with this cctv now i see things that amaze me people going from door to door trying your door handle to see if you left it unlocked i see some men going thu the rubbish bins of the estate behind me they were right in it all they took were some paper things what ever they were these are they same people who hang around our local B &Q waiting for work,

also metal has a good value now we have loads of vans going round collecting any kind of metal you often see the men from round the corner of me with their wheelie bins full of scrape metal pulling it along to this place up the road from me where they give cash for it, we have had drain covers removed fences and all sorts of stuff in this area go walking as their is money in to be made from it,
