Not the cheapest but a lot of people reckon that Pet Plan are the easiest to deal with and the quickest to pay out the money and the least likely to quibble over the amount. They don't refuse to cover the complaint after the first year either.

I would recommend Pet Plan, this covers any illness for life and not for just the 1 year as some policies do, just be carefull and read all the small print, I give out 6 week free pet plan insurance when I have puppies, and I know that many buyers have kept this going and they say it is really good.

Have recently taken out a policy with Pinaccle. They do lifetime cover, and ther insured amount is reinstated yearly. some cover an ongoing condition for life, but once the limit is reached then that is that, wheras Pinacle and Pet Plan reinstate the insured limit each year/.

I'll be interested to know how you get on wih Pinnacle, Barbara. I narrowed my search down to them and PetPlan.I went with Pet Plan because noone seemed to have used Pinnacle, but they were cheaper than PP and they discount for two dogs rather than three as with PetPlan.

With average luck I will never know, as our breed tends to have robust health!

I have always had superb service from DBI (Dog Breeders Insurance). They pay out quick, are helpful on the phone and even sent out condolence letters when each of our dogs died.

I have gone with Direct Line as they quoted me a fair price, there didn't seem to be any unusual or unfair conditions and they have always been good to deal with in regard to their other policies, home/buildings/car etc. But I would be interested to hear if anyone has ever had any problems with them

I had a leaflet through the other day from Direct Line and they now offer two levels of cover for Vets fee:
Essential - £4000 per condition upto 12months from onset.
Advanced - Up to £6000 per condition no time limit.
Thought this might be of interest but i have no idea of premiums.
I personally use Pet Plan as it was the only one i could find with cover for life when i insured Bailey I will look at Pinnacle next year when the renewal comes.

Hi Mick,
We have ours insured with Petplan and have had no hassle with a £700-£800 claim in the first year.
They settled directly with the Vet; all we had to pay the Vet was the excess.

Well I had a bit of grief with Petplan as some of you know but they paid out in the end and in hindsight a lot of it was do with the way the claim form was filled in by the vet's nurse so on the whole I think I would still go for Petplan

I've got my Cocker insured with Pet Plan because they're the only company I found that offer life cover with unlimited vets fees. I live in an expensive area (nearly £30.00 for one dose of Panacur) and I could easily spend £6000 + on claims in one year.

My two cockers are insured with Pet Protect. Never had to claim from them so don't know how good they are from that point of view. At work, we recommend Pet Plan and they do seem to pay out fairly quickly with minimal hassle.
