Hi.
First time user so please be gentle.
I read some old posts through a google search regarding the best way to dispose of dog poo, a common chore we all have to do. A friend of mine who is based in the Midlands has a small business where he disposes of the poo and cat litter on a twice weekly basis. He came around to my house he left a whats best described as a bin and twice a week (I have two dogs) he comes and takes the bin away and leaves me a new one and he charges me very little. and I have none of the hassle of jeyes fluid in the bins anymore :) or the awkward binmen especially in the summer.
If anyone wants anymore details because I think he wants to expand his business please give me a shout.

Our councils instructions re pet waste are to compost that of Rabbits and Guinea pigs and to bag and put in household waste that of Dogs and Cats. No extra charge.

We were told to put cat litter in our bin BUT then the binmen refused to take it as it was too heavy! It's a HUGE problem. I've gone through every type of cat litter there is that can be composted or burnt, my cats will not use any, just normal clay litter. :(
> BUT then the binmen refused to take it as it was too heavy!
I assume your bins are not wheelie bins, no more lifting for the bin men.
Surely if the council say cat litter in bin then they have to take it, I would complain to the council.

They are wheelie bins Brainless! But they were apparently too heavy to pull the few feet (no more than 5!) needed. We phoned the council and they said if it's too heavy it will be left, you will have to go to the tip. But our nearest tip (5 miles away) is in a different council and they won't take lots of cat litter, the nearest tip under our own council is 13 miles away........ There's lots of breeders in the area with the same problem.

Flip they must breed stronger bin men around here. As long as the lid closes they take it here, adn my bin can be pretty heavy at times.

We have to put our wheelie bins right at the edge of the kerb so the bin men don't have to move them at all. There is an 'arm' on the lorry that comes out if the lorry can't get close enough due to parked cars etc but the men never physically move any bins. I can't believe that a bin can be too heavy when all they really have to do is tilt it slightly and pull it along on wheels. What next?

There was a big hoohaa about the weight of wheelie bins in our area and the council threatened to weigh the bins before they were emptied, because the bin men had complained some of the bins were too heavy!! There was talk of putting some sort of scales on the lorries???!!!
Flippin ridiculous if you ask me!

I use Yesterday's News with no problem. Although I only have the one cat of course. It flushes straight down the loo. No bag no more to landful.
I will get a poke for this BUT it was a criteria I felt I must be able to fulfil before buying an indoor cat.

Our bin men won't take my garden bin if we push too much grass down making it too heavy. We cut and bag now and take to the refuge then recycle the bags. In the summer time I would need 4 brown bins for the grass alone.

We were told we would garden bins around 18mnths ago but we're still waiting! We are 5mins from the recycling centre and have a car but there's plenty folk who don't have cars or live a good distance away. Personally I think the council are hoping that if they don't give out garden bins folk will buy compost bins and get rid of it that way.
Hi.
He doesnt bring a wheelie bin, its like the bins you find in the park. I used to flush it down the loo but when we moved to our new house the toliet getting blocked :( With two dogs it was a lot for a old toliet to cope with. Then he came to me with this bin, He brings it one day I leave it outside I put all the mess in the normal toliet paper and pop it in there, and every couple of days he comes round with a new fresh smelling bin and takes the old one away and disoposes off all the mess :)
Our bin men would go through the bins when it was on the truck being emptied and if they saw anything that shouldn't be there, the following week they wouldnt take it :(
We have two rescue dogs, a cat and a rabbit so needless to say we do get through a fair bit of paper ;0

No bag no more to landful.I've just ordered a few bags -I know it's good stuff as I've tried it, just need to find out if I can make it last as long as my normal litter (by using less). At £7.99 for 13 kg it's a lot more expensive than the £6 I now pay for 20 kg. But it's annoying I have to order it over the net and can't pop out to shops for it. Can't flush it down the loo either as we have a septic tank and it would get full too quickly, but it can be burnt which is fine.

Hi Marianne,
I have used 3 bags in 14 months. I pick out the bits :-D and completed change twice a week. The key thing is to not use to much I guess.

LOL well we normally use around 60 kg of litter a WEEK and you can't really pick anything out, you have to empty the entire tray out, no choice with the numbers we have. :) But I am fairly optimistic we can use a smaller amount of Yesterdays News than of clay based litter -fingers crossed!
> Our bin men won't take my garden bin if we push too much grass down making it too heavy
Why don't you ask the council for more garden bins ? I have seen people around me putting 2 and 3 bins out .
> We were told to put cat litter in our bin BUT then the binmen refused to take it as it was too heavy!
Will the council not give you another bin ? I have 1 small and 1 large household rubbish bin . The council audited me and found that i fully recycle but have more than one bins worth of rubbish as 6 of us live here ,so i got a second smaller bin .

What are people who don't have transport supposed to do?
Will the council not give you another bin ?We'd have to pay for it, did consider it but realised we'd need 2 more bins in order for them to be as lightweight as they want them.
The council won't give us a new bin, because there are only two of us we don't warrant another one, BUT if we did we would have to pay £30 for it and they are only £20 at B&Q BUT!!!!! they are not the wheelie bins they are the ones with the lids on so I don't know if the bin men would take them lol
We'd have to pay for itreplying to myself LOL, by this I meant paying monhtly for the extra collection, not paying for the bin.
Its mental. round here we have a black bin, a green bin, a bottle bin and now a cardboard box, and it was on the news earlier somewhere they are trialing if you put you bin(s) out too early or bring them in too late you get fined and its a fine per person in the house!!!!!!!! i think it was £150p/p
> paying monhtly for the extra collection
The councils obviously do it very different in different areas - i've never heard of paying monthly !
> Its mental. round here we have a black bin, a green bin, a bottle bin and now a cardboard box
I've got 2 black bins , 1 brown bin and 5 lidded boxes . I also put any extra in bags .
I am thinking of charging the council rent as all these bins take up one side of my house !
We have two bins a big grey rubbish and a big green recycling plus a big green bag for garden bits.
Luckily having a large garedn we compost a lot and hire in a chipper and chip branches and stuff and mulch the flower beds so very little weeds.
Dog pooh goes in bags in the grey bin or when out in dog bins. We seem to be ok, if at anytinme it gets smellie we use Jayes fluid. When we get our new house its got a doggie wet room with a loo and I will be able to flush it. Currently Im not walking through the kitchen and lounge to find a loo to flush it in.
I did have two grey bins when my son's were at home, but when they left I gave it to my neighbours with two kids under 18months, there need was greater than ours.
Eastleigh Council used to give away free compost bins that you shoved in the garden, kept filling the top and got compost out the bottom it was great, then we moved to Winchester City Council not so good!
I opened one of our compost heaps last year in a fit of gradening fevor found nest of slo worms after running away, OH came over and covered them over a agin, that has not become a wildlife bit, neither of us felt like disturbing them!! (He has a snake phobia Im just a coward).
Im thinking of a wormery when we return from our life in a 1 bed flat wityh two dogs next year. Anything to avoid adding to landfill. But Im not sure I can handle worms so jury is out.

I would be so glad of this and know others who would be too!!
Please PM me his details.. Thanks

LOL me too!!
My bin men are quite considerate... probably because I always give them a Xmas Box :-)
