I don't know much about broken bones, but if there is a lot of swelling I don't think a cast will be put on untill the swelling is under control?

That gives the man a bit of time to see if he can raise funds/help elsewhere to get his dog treated, without the need for castration.
Poor dog, poor man, it musy be such a worry :(

When my mother broke her leg - it was too messy to be pinned, there was no way it could be done and she had a cast - the hospital couldn't x-ray for a DAY or so because of the swelling.   By 3 weeks she was nearly half way through the expected time it would take to heal up ;)

Hopefully the splint will do the trick - as long as the dog keeps off the leg - and no further treatment will be necessary.   Hope the man gets enough money together to attend a regular vet soon.

sorry to hear this poor dog if i win the lotto i would gladly pay for the treatment myself for the guy , what a lot of hassle going thu the RSPCA , must say i'd rather go private get things sorted out quick with no agro its a real shame for this poor dog,

Im very relieved 4 all parties concerned but how is he plannin on makin the payments 4 the credit card if he is out of work? Also im shocked that barclays have lent money to a person out of work. I hope this doesnt lead to other complications, happy the dog is gettin the right treatment tho. Do u think the rspca will bill 4 treatment already done or worse still pester 4 the neutaring?

Delighted the dog is going to get sorted out properly.  I know the man will have difficulties paying but hopefullly he'll get work and sort it out asap [the credit bill I mean].

although the RSPCA are not my favourite people at the moment, I must say that I used to use the RSPCA animal hospital in Putney for a few years and always found them to be very good. Had an emergency with my cat a couple of times and they were really good and never mentioned neutering anything,I always had to ask about it and then book in. For the prices they charge both for everyday and emergency treatment I have always found it excellent value for money and am very grateful they were there.

This is not for our concern surely, there are plenty of people who struggle in life financially but do have plenty of love that they can give an animal..maybe they cut down or do without lifes luxuries.

I once worked at a homeless shelter and speaking with one of the vets that go visiting the homeless peoples dogs on the streets of Brighton he said that those dogs were better loved and cared for than some of the ones in a so called "Loving family enviroment".

Just because this man has appeared to be having financial problems at the moment and has managed to find a way of getting the dog the medical attention it needs by way of a credit card lets not question how he will be able to pay it back,its the banks business not ours.

im  amazed someone with a working lurcher (after all this I believe is the dog we are talking about??) even contemplated going to the rspca!

With the RSPCA's views on hunting I'm not surprised they pushed to have the dog castrated, they would be horrified that more hunting dogs might be produced.

It may well be ours tho when the man cannot pay his credit card bill, defaults n passes the bill onto the rest of the banks customers. Im also pretty certain no bank would lend funds to someone who had told them they were out of work. After all said n done im glad the dog is gettin the treatment it needs n is no longer in pain. Also that the man isnt bein forced into makin a decision he didnt want to - my concern is the long term financial implications, credit cards are one of the most expensive ways to borrow, i hope the man in question is back in work very soon.

Good news for the owner, only just read the story on other post which had been locked for some unknown reason? I was going to suggest on there to pay by credit card! I had to for my snoop when he had a blocked stomach cost 600 but you just find the money to pay for our loved ones don't we.
