Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Mum keeps being sick

I have read that this is a normal instictive behaviour in a bitch, but should i try to stop it as it cant be healthy for either my girl or her pups. Basically pups are 4 weeks old, weaning well and gaining well, but over the past week my girl has been regurgitating her food for her pups. The frequency of this happening has increased now to almost everytime she eats. Should i be stopping this and how if so? Ive tried keeping her away from the pups for an hr after eating, but she'll still go straight into the pups and be sick!

It is best not to let her near the pups after she has eaten.

I fidn it easiest to fed her after the pusp have been fed,and she has topped them up at the milk bar, this means she can finish off what they have left as well as eat her own and they are of course full up so less stimulus for her to provide sated pups with food.

She won't need to go back to them for at least an hour or two.

I also agree with B my girl  will attempt to regurgitate her food for the puppies once they are weaned , you will have to keep her away from the puppies for a hr or so after she is fed or Mum will quickly loose condition .
