Poor owners :(

See this website which lists Pet Crem's that adhere to the pet crem's association's code of conduct.

I saw this on the news last night and just looked at the link. Its awful, the owner must be devastated. RIP Bournville.

That's disgusting, how can people take money for a service and then do that?

I would never pay for a cremation, I know it comforts some people to have ashes, but I would never trust that it was just my dog's ashes, and that story confirms my fears!

You could say the same about human cremations.

This story is appalling, but on the other hand my vet once had to transfer a pet's ashes from one container to another on behalf of a client, and noticed a distinctive tooth and was able to identify that the ashes were indeed those they were supoosed to be. Please don't tar all pet crematoria with the same brush as this one.

Our local pet creamtorium is VERY helpful and do all they can to help people get through a loss. You can view your pet in their chapel if you wish and say goodbye, you can be present at the cremation, you can bury the ashes there, you can have a memorial in their special memorial garden etc. When one of my dogs had to be put to sleep it was so sudden and such a shock I was confused. It was out of hours and a locum vet and I just said I didn't want the ashes. The next day I was horrified - I WANTED the ashes, but I'd declined them. We phoned the vets immediately when they opened Monday morning but it was too late, they had already had the weekend's bodies collected by the crematorium. So my husband phoned them. It was an awful experience for him, one I will forever wish I had not forced upon him, but they let him go there and look at all the bodies they had there frozen, ready to be mass cremated. He found our dog and he was taken aside to be done individually.

The way I see it is i've tried to do the best for my dogs, if the cremators don't do the right thing thats on their concience.

We used to use a pet burial service & she really was awful.  At least a cremation place can't threaten you for more money after its done.

I have my pets cremated by a local pet crematorium I trust 100%. I've known the owners for a very long time &the service they give cannot be beaten IMHO. They collect the pets with such care & attention, no "bin liners"for them but a basket(s)& blanket & I know they do individual cremations. They are available 24/7 as well.

They are not members of the association in the link someone has posted, they don't have to be.

Same here, the one that does out area is excellent.

They will give an individual service , my friend used them last yr for her dog, they came to the house, put her with her own blanket, into a nice basket.. what was also nice was, there where no other animals in the van when he put her in.. she got her back the next day.

Just used them myself for my old cat..

So yes, there are good ones out there,  I think its something we all should plan ahead for, check out these things   for the inevitable day when we need them.

Always check out any form of pet crematorium as the anti puppy farm campaigners have told me of one run by a banned puppy farmer, and he also has a row of kennels with dogs in behinfd the crematorium.
