Have any of you CDers ever owned a dog that you didn't like or bond with? What did you do?

It took me about 8 years to bond with one of mine.

Never it has always been love at first site, I collected a rescue BC & bonded with him the instant we saw each other. He had been in his fosterer's home for 3 months & bonded with both of the couple, but when we saw each other we just clicked.

Never had any problems bonding with any of my dogs.

my mum had one of our tibetan spaniel puppies and over the coming months just didnt seem to bond at all, eventually after advice etc, i said i'd have her back as my mum was tearing her own hair out and she walked in and settled in straight away as if to say "thank god i'm home" and she hasnt left or been the problem that my mum said she was.that was 3 years ago.i think my mum thought tib pups would be all cutesy ,when in fact lola just ran rings around her to the point it wanst fun for my mum and lola was spending her days outwitting her elderly owner! i'm a firm believer of if its meant to be..lola was the runt of her mums litter and i constantly had to place her on teats to stop the bigger pups bullying her out the way,and it seems she recognised this when she returned here.

I did have a dog that I didn't bond with immediately.  This was almost twenty years ago.  I had lost a black Toy Poodle boy that I had bred myself.  I was distraught, and even cried while driving to work.  I had other dogs, but needed a Toy Poodle.

I eventually went to a Toy Poodle Championship show.  Walked in as the black boys were being judged, and promptly burst into tears!  After making enquiries, I went, the following day, to see a pup.  Different colour, opposite sex.  I felt that was what I needed.  After I got her home, I was devastated to find myself thinking 'but I don't love you' and I felt wicked.

Suffice to say, it didn't take long before she wormed her way into my heart.  :-)

I have, and after really trying to bond (and failing) I found him a lovely home where he is really treasured. Best for the dog; they do know how you feel about them

I had one. I tried for 7 years but in the end (bitches fighting made me finally decide) she went to a loving home. She walked into their Living Room and sat down with her back to me. she didn't speak to me after that. She was 'home'. I went back a few weeks later. She came up to me, sniffed me and went and sat down with her new family and ignored me again. One of the best things I ever did. Though it broke my heart to have to admit defeat and let her go.
