Ok.. *takes off her lurker cloak*
I am trying to think up an affix and wondered if any one here could help...
Some criteria ~ I live by a small wood, mainly Beech, with Bluebells in spring. The wood is called Frith. I am on a top of a hill and it gets windy here in winter.... umm... also gets misty!
The other ideas I had going were either using my bitch's star sign  Leo..... something? Lion? Or, a combination of my families names, but there are too many Z's and V's in there lol........ So, I think the tree-hill-mist thingy is better. ooOOoo Hillmist! hmmmmm... (jots that one down....)
??
I got a small list going already and am curious to see what other people will come up with... heh heh! No hurry... Oh yes ~ If it is against board rules and regs I am sorry, but I am really stuck and thought that the very intelligent and inventive people here could help ;) :D *grins cheekily*
Frilly
as in Frith and Hilly :)

Where in Gloucestershire do you live, and what are the family names as I like a challenge? (Email me separately on those if you like.)

Hi first things to come to mind
MistyBlue
BlueMist
Bluebellhill
Beechwood
Windy hounds

Could Windy Hounds not be misinterpreted [smile]
Anne
Anne it was my weird sense of humour showing thru :) not to be taken seriously.

It is best to have a fairly short affix, as that gives more scope with pups names due to the number of total letters being restricted.
BELLFRITH
BLUEBEECH
FRITHWOOD
MISTFRITH

Hello Walkhound (hope you are wearing something under that cloak)! ;)
BLUEWOODHILL
(Maybe too simple, but I thought it had a nice ring to it)
Let us know what you decide,
Denise.

I think that is above the maximum letters allowed for an affix although it sounds nice. I think the max is 11 or 12? Remember as well that when naming puppies the total number of letters including the affix is 24 so having a long affix cuts down on the length of the name.

WOW!! This is great, thankyou everyone. :) :)
M ~ From your suggestions I think you have sneaked a peek at my pics? :D I will e-mail you after I do this. Thanks.
Christine ~ Thankyou, I have to wipe coffee off my keyboard now! windyhounds! How appropriate is that??? hehehe :D
I like Bluebeech. (thanks Brainless, but why on earth did you give yourself that nick?)
Joan ~ Thanks for the info on the amount of letters allowed, I never knew that.
lol... do you know what? I have puppy names planned and my pup I may breed from is only 17 weeks now...... yet to show etc... We had a match night at Ring Craft and she got a couple of rosettes, it was fun, but isn't showing hard work? I was trying to hold her attention and get her to stand... *sigh*
oh yes, and what I wear under my cloak depends on who is looking when I take it off :D
Keep the ideas flowing everyone, thanks.

I thought Bluewoodhill sounded OK..it is max 12 letters as I have not log got mine and it is 12 also.
Pam :-))

Hi again,
From the additional info you've given me, how about:
Sharlacot
Sharvizo (sorry, Sean!)
Junoshar
Julasha
Would agree that it's more sensible to keep it a sensible length to allow more leeway with the 24 characters allowed by the KC. (Although they do regularly approve names WELL over this limit, you can't guarantee it.)
Just for interest, my affix came from my dad's names - BRIan HOWard - as he died of cancer when I was 6. Choosing this as an affix served two purposes - 1. kept his memory going and 2. (more cynically!) got my Mum interested in the breeding/naming side as I was still living at home when I registered the affix and bred my first litter.
Where did everyone else get their affixes from, then, to expand this thread and give Sharon some more ideas?
Know what you mean about the names - I am unlikely to breed more than once every couple of years, but have lists of names for dozens of litter themes. Luckily, a good friend of mine breeds Great Danes and Bengal Cats, so she keeps me entertained thinking up registered names for that lot!!

We have had our affix for over 20 years now and at the time tried several with several rejections. We were eventually given BRANTWOOD for our Cavaliers. Initially we used to think of a theme for each litter i.e. the first were nursery rhymes and we Jack Horner, Paddywack, Miss Muffett etc. and then we had Herbs. Now since my husband is a wine enthusiast (not drinking to excess just tasting as in Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke) we name our puppies after wines, grapes or wine regions and the list to choose from is endless. We currently have Brantwood Beaujolais, Frazzanti, Fleurie, Trousseau and Sparkling Rose (so named because her mum is Frazzanti (fizzy white) and dad is Trousseau (still red) so if you mix these two, you get a sparkling rose!!)
Hope you get your choice and then produce healthy and happy puppies - good luck.

Have you got a Shiraz??????? :D :D Please say yes, it's my fave !!!!!
Beth
Oooooooooh a wine theme? Fun! We have LOTS of wine in our house, maybe I should choose that for the affix!
I had birds and plants all starting with the same letter writen down for puppy names, for example ~ Bay, Basil, Barley, Bramble, Buttercup etc... or Wren, Wagtail ( :D ), Warbler, Woodlark. (I hope I don't lose my list.)
Thankyou M for helping me out and I understand your reason for choosing your affix. My mother died of cancer and my father has a brain tumor. :( We are all trying to make the best of things, but it is tough.
I am writing all these suggestions down so keep em coming.

Hi Sharon,
We've named our current litter after wine (our other pastime!), but we couldn't have the name we wanted for one of the pups, so we hope to be allowed to call him after a cocktail.
We were not allowed to have our preferred choice of affix, even though the K.C. said no-one else had got it! Apparently it appeared somewhere in other dogs' pedigree names, so we had to choose another.
I hope you find something you like!
regards
Clare
That's a bit much isn't it Clare? Got me thinking now.. do you choose your affix and then they reject it and so on until they agree? Or do you give several choices in order of your preference and they let you know which one you can have?

you start off with a list of 6 (I think it was) in your order of preference. They then let you know which you can have.

Yes Sharon, Joan's right. You send in 6 choices,in order of preference, and they advise you which one you can have. We were a bit miffed about not being allowed an affix that no-one else had tho', but we're happy with the one we've got now.
The K.C. rang and told us we couldn't have the name we wanted for our boy pup, but we've chosen one of our other options (which now we think is better). We felt very honoured that they rang us!

Clare
Got my affix! *Woodmist*. Thankyou for all the ideas, I did consider them all and sort of came up with a mixture.
I sent in 3 choices that I was asked for, and got a reply back telling which one they had chosen. Then I sent away for a change of name to add it at the end of my bitches name.
I am going to ringcraft and have entered for some shows coming up in oct/nov time. Now, if only I can get her to stop barking at other dogs at the club when we are waiting our turn... stop biting her lead and wag her blooming tail when she stands! urgggg..... such a naughty girl, but I love her! (She can shake hands beautifully... much good THAT is! )
