I was on two antibiotics for 5 days...Erythromycin and Flagyl (Metronidazole) both quite strong. Since then I've had a coating on my tongue that give a bad sicky sweet but kinda bitter taste. I am guessing it is oral thrush. Is there a way to get rid of it with out having to take yet more tablets or nasty mouth rinse? And I don't know if it is only coincidence or what but craving sweet stuff quite a lot. Been baking all week (new muffin recipes) and just HAVE to have LOTS of them...even though I usually crave salt.
It was bad enough to have to take two antibiotics at one time...not really keen on taking something else which might cause side effects I'll need to get rid of. Tried Cordysl mouth wash but that just burned and left a horrid bitter taste for two days.
Sorry if this is an icky topic....but something as close to nature would be ideal. Doctors only want to stuff you with more drugs...:-(
Cheers
You are going to need the 'proper stuff' to get rid of it i am afraid !
I am not sure but you may be able to get it from the chemist on the scheme .
Hiya
I think you might have to have a trip to the docs as it's usually treated with an antifungal lozenge (to make it localised) such as nystatin or miconazole (Daktarin). You could always pop down to your pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if there is anything they can give you. I'm sure eating natural yogurt wouldn't harm either.

I'd second the pro biotic yoghurts.
Karen :)

you could pop into you local health food shop and get some acidopholis (sorry about spelling) capsules ( friendly bacteria! ) to help your system get over the antibiotics. However I would still consider going back to docs and maybe having something from him I dont think you will need more antibiotics as thrush is a yeast infection. However A) I am not a medic and B) you can always take the capsules after you are all better to help you system build up the friendly bacteria that will have been killed off by the antibiotics.
Interesting that you have noticed a desired for sweet things that would certainly follow as candida likes sugar.

I had this a couple of months ago after being on antibiotics for nearly two months. My tongue was sore and white. It wasn't thrush, just a reaction to being unwell for quite some time (according to the doctor) and it went a few days after the antibiotics had finished. I also had a horrible taste in my mouth, which was a side effect of the antibiotics.
I hope you feel better soon.

you will need to get the proper stuff for thrush at the chemist but you shouldn't get side affects from that. you can always pop to the Doctors to check thats what you need.
if you take antibiotics again eat a couple of big spoonfulls of live yogurt each day during and for a week after, this kills off the bacteria that
makes thrush.
if you eat live yogurt every day then this helps preventing getting it as well.
i suffer a lot from thrush and this really helps.
