Whats the average price for a toy poodle? I saw an advert in the local paper for toy poodles run on by the breeder but have finished growing and are too small to show. they were asking £1000 each. That seemed a lot of money for pet quality pups.

Too small to show? Something fishy there - there is no minimum height for toy poodles as far as I am aware they must only be under 11 inches. So must be another fault?
I would think that £600-£800 would be the normal price range for all 3 sizes, health tested parents & KC reg etc. Sounds like this person is looking to make back their "running on" costs.

They could be too small to show, as although there is no minimum height for toys, some are just too small and fine, miniatures are supposed to be between 11 - 15 inches but anything under 13 inches would prob be considered too small to show. Toys have always seemed to me to be the most expensive size of poodle but would still say its a little on the high side (but not outrageous) but its years and years since I had anything to do with toys so I could be wrong. More important they are health tested rather than worry bout price or size.
I would say that price is too high. I recently bought a pup with all health tests and a wonderful pedigree for much less than that.

Maybe the breeder is trying to cash on to the fashion of small dogs?
I mean there are people who will be delighted to see an advert for "tiny toy poodle"!
Just imagine how small poodle crosses you can create with that - thinking...

Its far too high - I know of some people trying to cash in on the colour - chocolate, white, parti and phantom colouring - by saying they are rare.
> too small to show
I am surprised that they are not being sold as ' tea-cup ' sized !
I would expect to pay around £750.00 for a pup who is KC registered and has all relevant health tests etc.
Thats what surprised me. I wondered if the high price was to deter people that wanted the pups as possible "oodle" breeders, but it still seemed very high for a dog deemed not good enough to show! There was no mention of health tests at all.
I have 2 toy poodles, the oldest I bought in January 2005 for £600.00 and the youngest in August 2006 for £750.00 from the same breeder in Dorset so I can't imagine what she charges now 3 years later. They are both KC registered and the breeder shows toy poodles at Crufts so I know they are well bred. I have looked on e pups and they do appear a lot cheaper on the whole but I would not feel very confident about buying from this site as the last poodle I had was bought from an advert in the local paper by my parents and turned out to be quite a sickly dog all his life and was forever at the vets, which is why I bought my two latest poodles from someone who has been breeding poodles for a long time.

they may have been for £1500, before they became too small, i wouldnt want one as they seem too old if they are fully grown,
