There was an article about this  recently in Dogs today, didn't read it in full just skimmed it, but it seemed to be a bit of a rant about the way show people were getting around the docking law.  IT surprised me, because I can only think of having seen one docked dog in the last year or so which I wondered about - that was at Border union this year, and was a big Gundog breed, it stood out as the only docked one in it's class, but I was not motivated enough to check in the catalogue for what age or what class.  However, it was unusual enough to make me stop and think.  Certainly in my own breed, I have not seen a single example.

With Border Union being in Scotland there isn't a cut off date as legally docked dogs can be shown regardless of when they were docked or if the public is charged an entrance fee.

I've not seen any myself.  Don't forget there are a number of breeds that are born nturally with short tails, mine included.

i saw one at devon county show being shown. i asked the owner how it was possible and she said that the schedule said "legally docked dogs.....etc....." which is why I posted a while back about is the entry fee law into just the dog show or the overall showground? no one seems to know!

Also those dogs born in Ireland are still legally docked.

Know of some that are showing Boxers here in the UK born in Ireland so therefore
legally docked....

They're not legally being shown though if people have paid for entry.

Ive read that some shows have changed the entry fee to a car park fee to allow docked dogs to show, as they are not being charged to enter just to park there car.

Showing of Docked Dogs

A dog docked before the 28 March 2007 in Wales and 6 April 2007 in England may continue to be shown at all shows in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland throughout its natural life.

A dog docked on, or after, the above dates, irrespective of where it was docked, may not be shown at shows in England and Wales where the public is charged a fee for admission.

However, where a working dog has been docked in England and Wales under the respective regulations set out above, it may be shown where the public are charged a fee, so long as it is shown "only to demonstrate its working ability". It will thus be necessary to show working dogs in such a way as ONLY to demonstrate their working ability and not conformity to a standard.

A dog legally docked in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or abroad may be shown at any show in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

but like i said before teilo.... how does that work if a show is in the boundary of an agriculturl show? the public pay to get into the whole agric show but not just to get into the dog show bit. where does the paying rule come into play??

A agricultural show with a dog section is still a show where entry is charged to the public and where docked dogs can be seen in showing classes,The Kennel Club still ask the show committees to show the wording about only undocked dogs and legally docked dogs may be shown as do the championship dog shows, At Paighton championship show a dog was shown from the USA with a docked tail born after the docking ban and entry was charged at this show for the public(see schedule) i have heard that the Kennel Club can not enforce the ban and that they think it is up to DEFRA who in turn say it is the Kennel Clubs job to step in so why did we go through all the fuss in 2007.

Hi Sam I think it is a difficult task for show organisers to policethe Ban , I have not seen any dog that

was docked after the ban being shown in the UK, I am talking about Terrier Group, can

not comment on other Groups, But exhibitors and judge's are in the best position to police this, I judged WFT at a champ show last year and a puppy put on table for me to go over

looked to have been docked,,,, but when going over the pup it was obvious to me it had not been,,  I said to the Handler I thought it was Docked at first,,,,  he said I was not the first judge to think this, he later showed me a Vet certificate to confirm the dog was not docked
,I thought the tail may have been Tipped as I have judged in Europe and many dogs are tipped  It is easy to feel this, and whenever I have found this in Europe,,,, I hold the end of the tail  and just give a big Smileeeeeee  to the handler.

Paignton Ch Sh dropped its entrance fee after schedules were printed - Bath Ch Sh also did the same this year. As a result legally docked dogs could be shown.  A number of docked gundogs were shown that were born after the AWB - my legally docked youngters were shown and won MPB and Open Bitch with CC and BOB.
