My girl had a cesarean yesterday. Last night she was out of it. she let the puppies feed ok. This morning she seems much brighter. She is showing much more interest in the puppies but does not seem to have the idea of cleaning them. I have been cleaning them with cotton wool and toileting them. Will mum gradually work out what to do? and is there anything I can do to encourage her?

Some people say that putting a dab of honey on the pups' nether regions encourages the bitch to start licking there. :-)

yes honey is a good 1 and most new mums love it but if your girls like mine ,"she just turned her nosie up " make sure you try and toilet them before they feed like mum would and im sure she will get the hang of it over the next few days ...x

If she is showing interest you are lucky!  I have had girls that didn't even realise that pups belong to them!

Just carry on assisting her, she's been through a lot and will be sore, and in pain.

As her maternal hormones kick in, she will gradually get on with things.  Don't rush her - she'll get there!!  :-)  Good luck  :-)

She is doing really well now. I did try the honey but she didn't seem to be mad keen on it, Thankfully she now seems to be cleaning them.
