Hi everyone can anyone recommend a shampoo suitable for the above breed please.

Groomers evening primrose oil shampoo is quite good on them, we have used it on our bernese, you can get a black one for the black and tan bits and a white one for the white bits.  Keeps the coat in good condition.

yes i second that fifi, bernese dont need bathing too often, as a good brush through every day will help keep their coats looking good and clean, :)

Not used what the ladies above have recommended, there are os many brands to choose from. I have been using different brands over the past 2yrs and have found anything which is honey and oatmeal to be very good and then i follow up with dog conditioner which leaves mine very shiny.
Also with the white bits, getting them really white if they have wallowed in something nasty and black i use either imperial leather soap(recommended by a breeder) or head and shoulders(which strips the warmth away) and leaves it very white..

The best thing for white bits, (I used to show white poodles so have tried everything :) )  Is Vetzeyme JDS shampoo mixed with a little of the original green fairy liquid, the white positively sparkles, but don't use it on the black bits as it is very drying and I would only use it for show days, and as Suejaw says always use a conditionioner on the black bits as it does make the coat shine.  Would also recommend bathing them 2 days before a show as it allows the coat to settle,  you need to rewash the white feet on the morning of the show but thats not exactly hard work :)

Fifi 2 days before a show, wow how on earth did you keep your Berners clean?? I have to do it the night before, coat somehow settles overnight otherwise they would need another bath due to them getting mucky, they just can't stay away from mud, they will lay in a flower bed to make themselves smell better..

They just aren't given quite so much freedom the day after being washed (no access to flowerbeds!!!! :) ) and get road walked instead of park or beach, and you just make sure you get up early enough (even if you are leaving at 2am!!!) to rewash and blow dry any bits that have got slightly grubby.  I used to wash them the day before but realised after a while that their coat looked so much better on the 2nd day after being bathed.

We found that too when we showed our first Bernese, bath two days before but we used wash and Go! :-) He never used to get very mucky somehow - however Bramble is a whole new league in muck attraction. So glad we don't show her!!!!
