Topic Dog Boards / Health / Spayed Bitch but Males interested

Hi, mums lab, spayed at 14 months now 24 months old.  Vulva area swollen and males paying alot of interest in her.  She is doing lots of little wee's instead of longer ones.  I wondered if it may be an urinary infection but would that make the vulva swell.  She is a bright as a button, I saw her today and she was as happy as ever.  Any ideas? My mum asked me if when she was spayed they may have left the ovaries behind but tied them off so she cant have pups but still have 'season' like times.  I used to be a vet nurse, but many years ago, and everything was taken away then.  Obvioulsy, she is going to call the vet tomorrow but wondered if you knowledgeble folk could advise!!

I'm not all that knowledgeable but from posts on here I got the impression it's becoming more fashionable with vets to leave stuff in there. I checked with my vets and they still remove everything.

She could well have an infection as that would be attractive to the boys too!
Dont remember my girls ever swelling with a UTI but is worth checking it out with a urine sample at the vets.

It's quite possible that some ovarian tissue was left behind when she was spayed. I've known of this in three bitches so far. I'm told that if you blood test her you'll know her hormone levels and will know if this is the case with her. If this has happened then she'll either need further surgery or hormone injections.

If the vulva is swollen I would have a vet check.

My bitch was spayed after her first season and males are always interested in her, but there is no evidence of anything being wrong at all.

Thanks everyone. She saw the vet today who thinks she has a urinary infection. On anti'b for a week so hopefully that will sort her out.
