My Boxers were palying in the garden and one of the somehow managed to rip out his claw. Now and again he keeps licking it as it must be sore. Any advice would be welcome please.

Having had a dog who got such a bad nailbed infection that he ended up having the entire toe amputated, I'd take him to the vet at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, bathe it with salty water (tablespoon of salt in a pint of water) and allow it to dry.

Your vet will probably put him on a course of antibiotics to counteract any infection.

one of my girls ripped a nail off at the start of the year and there was just the stump of the quick left. It was very painful for her and she was put on anti biotics and pain killers with a buster collar to stop her licking it. It had to be kept dry which meant wearing boots for walkies. Despite being told it would take 6-8 months to grow back, 6 weeks later she had a reasonable size nail back and was in the ring just 2 weeks after she did it! If its caught early enough it will be fine, if left infection can set in so like the others have said, off to the vets to be safe. Hope its all ok.

always handy to have hibiscrub in  for these situations ,one of mine ripped her nail out  a few years ago vet gave antibiotics and metacam for a day or so and I was told to bathe with hibiscrub a couple of times a day and leave open to let it heal.
Nail grew back in no time.

My golden retriever did this a month or so ago.  We took him to the vet and he had an antiobiotic injection followed by a week's course.   Our vet recommended bathing in salt and not to bandage.  I think he took about 6 weeks to heal and he is fine now.
