are they a recognised colour or are they rare? ive recently seen a picture of one but never seen one in the flesh.
"Any colour or mixture of colours - but never merle (dapple)."
From the Breed Standard. So not they aren't 'rare' - just non-standard, therefore worth less money - not more :) :)

The KC wont register murle chi's , due to the helath problems carried by the murl gene.
http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=2249also i think i read somewhere the colour never appeared in the breed untill one day it just poped up so some think that someone crossed something else in with out saying anything

I won't swear by it, but feel sure I read that dapple dachsunds were used?

I've heard that about Dapple Dachshunds as well.

looking at pics i can see they r probably dapple x's . nowt blue merleish about them. look just to have big black blobs on coats.
if they cant be KC regd how can they command such high prices???

Because KC reg pedigree dogs are all dying because they are all the result of incestuous matings & the "merle"chihuahuas are "rare" :-O ;-)
