Can someone please explain, what happens if my dog qualifies in for example puppy class (6-12 months) for crufts, but by the time crufts comes my dog is out of the age range? (13months+). Also what happens if he qualifies in 2 classes is he then able to enter both these classes at crufts? But my main question is about the age thing.
Thanks in advance.
You just go up a class :-) So, depending on the age of your 'puppy' at the time you would either be in special puppy or special Junior. The age is actually different at Crufts. If I remember rightly a pup cannot enter until it is 8 months of age, but special puppy goes up to 14 months (someone please correct me if I'm wrong ;-) ) Special Junior is also not the usual age group. Again memory has gone out of the window here, but the dogs are a bit older than normal. You can enter as many of the classes as you feel up to entering. You could, if you so wished, enter every class. Though you would have a very tired and bored puppy, and you would be up against much older dogs. Some even RCC or CC winners, and even Champions. At Crufts I personally would only enter the age class(es) until the dog was too old for such class(es). They are usually quite big classes.

You're entirely right Lindy Lou. :) As for what to enter, personally I like to always enter Good citizen as well as the usual classes according to age or wins -provided the dog is eligible of course. I like to support the GC class as I think it's great to show the world that show dogs can be well trained as well.

When a dog qualifies for Crufts he can be entered into any class; if he qualifies from Puppy you could enter him in Open if you wanted to (but it wouldn't be a good idea really!). Best to stick with the class for his age
at the time of Crufts.
I've hunted the crufts pages but it's not there yet, but my puppy will be just over 14 months on the first day of Crufts (first time qualifying so VERY excited especially as I bred him) so will he be in special puppy or special junior. I know the cut off for puppy says something about 14 months but can't remember whether it includes 14 or not. Any one have any idea?

He will be in sp junior, as its taken from the first day on the show.
So for instance the show is on the 14/15/16 and he is 14 months on the 17, he is over age for puppy
Marianne, thanks for confirming what I suspected. :-) I haven't entered Crufts for a couple of years now. I actually hate it. Not because it is Crufts, but because I hate crowds. I start panicking so it really isn't a good place for me. Other shows are fine - I can always escape ;-)

The first day of Crufts next year is 11th March if your puppy is 14 month old before then, then he will need to be entered in Special Junior.
So for instance the show is on the 14/15/16 and he is 14 months on the 17, he is over age for puppyNot at Crufts -at Crufts a dog turning 14 months a day or so AFTER the show, as in your example, would still be a puppy.
Phew
Zola was born 12/01/09
So she will just scrape in to puppy!

SORRY, HAVING A BLONDE MOMENT !!

Your not qualifying for a particular class, just qualifying to be able to enter, so it doesn't matter which class or how many times you gain a qualifying award.
When it comes to entering you enter whichever class or classes your dog is eligible for at time of entries closing.

i dont know if other people have already explained this, i couldnt be bothered to read them.
the class you qualify for crufts in isnt the class you enter at crufts. just think of crufts as an ordinary show, you enter what ever class you like as long as your dog is aloud to enter.
and crufts isnt all it is cracked up to be, it all depends on how good the judge is and what the judge likes in teh breed.

As the others have said about it doesn't matter what class you qualify in, as long as its a qualifying class like puppy, you can then enter which ever class you choose for crufts, generally speaking the lowest class you can for the age group or winnings you have.
I qualified my boy in puppy at a Ch show and he was entered in special yearling at Crufts this year.
