Hi can anyone help ... in my area there are a breeding kennels which breed GSDs. I became involved with these kennels after someone lost their GSD from their while on holiday (although this is NOT a boarding kennels they took the dog in on a private agreement). Funnily enough the dog which got lost was a very handsome GSD unneutered male! The kennel owners did not report the dog lost during the weeks till the owners came back and the dog has not been seen since.

While helping the owner come to terms with this and look for her dog, the kennels advertised ex brood dogs free to excellent homes. I decided to visit to have a look around. The house and yard was teeming with GSDs and there were many ferral kittens around the place, and no interest in neutering them. I was not allowed to look at the kenneling (shed) areas but was shown one adult GSD bitch, who was emaciated, low on her hind quarters and had excrement engrained into her feet (the upper body had obviously been washed off for show). I took this dog from the kennels and subsequently rehomed her.

Recently the kennels applied for an extension/revision to their licence to up the number of dogs they could have. They claimed that on the original application 9 years ago they asked for 38 adult dogs plus 7 litters per year. The application went through saying they could have only 38 dogs at any one time. This is not the practice they have stuck to, claiming that they have been breeding 7 litters per year. At the planning meeting I spoke against the application from a welfare point of view, it was said that welfare was not an issue for planning. However the application was rejected and it was clear that those at the planning meeting were thinking about welfare too!! However, I feel that there will be an appeal. What I want to prove is whether these kennels have stuck (officially) to the 7 litters per year they have claimed. I have heard that they registered 8 last year. So in short does anyone have back copies of the breed supplements from the kennel club dating back over several years???

Thanks

I would hazard a guess that on closer inspection, you will find that these kennels probably only register the seven litters (or less) that they have permission for. That will not mean that they have not bred more litters, only that they have not KC registered the pup's. Have you contacted any of the breed clubs to find out if they keep records of all litters registered? If no one on this forum can help you with your request for details, then photocopies of individual breed registrations (per BRS) can be purchased for a small fee from the KC Library.
