Could someone let me know roughly how much you would expect to pay a good kennel for two fairly large dogs for a stay of three nights, four days in the South East. Many thanks

A good few years ago it was £8 per dog per night, so I'd expect to pay a lot more than that now.

Well, about 3 years ago I paid £16 per day per dog and because it was a bank holiday weekend I had to pay an extra day so I would always check collection times as it can sometimes mean them staying an extra day.
Thank you. They are actually going to stay with a very good friend but she won't even discuss taking any money and her daughter has suggested a 'normal' cost which I was sure was below the real cost (and looking at your replies it was!). I was going to get her a voucher and a little present of some kind - would you think £100 would be about right? I don't want to overdo it and embarrass anyone but I do want to be fair.

I would think that it would be more than generous and if a good friend she may feel it too much. I looked after a rescue puppy that I had helped rehome while the new owners were away for the weekend (they were German and they were waiting for the pet passport to come through). I really didn't want anything as I considered it part of the support via rescue, but she game me £25 anyway.
Perhaps ring round a few local kennels and ask what they charge, then take it from there.

I would think a good friend would say £100 is too much. Are you supplying all your dog food? You could supply a nice human food hamper for your friend too. You could fill it with the sort of treats we none of us buy for ourselves :)
Ideally you want your friend to feel loved and appreciated but not embarrassed and uncomfortable. It's often much easier to give a gift rather than cash as it feels less like a business transaction
The kennels I used to work in chrged £41.20 per day for 2 dogs in together

Last year I had one of my own pups come to stay with me for 10 days while the new owners went on holiday. I had told them that I don't charge to keep a pup that I had bred.
I admit that she wouldn't eat the food they brought, and had the same as my lot, but they weren't to know that. I was absolutely over the moon when they gave me a thank you card, with £30 worth of PAH vouchers in it. I was very touched, and it was a super choice of vouchers, given I have a houseful of dogs.
Totally unexpected, and very much appreciated.

The kennels I use is 2 dogs together, a Rottie and an AM cocker complete with supplying food and giving medication that they both need is £15 per night total.
She even makes sure they are in the quite part of the kennels as Ebba has HD and doesnt need to be over excited.
You pay from 10.30am to 10.30am after that it ic charged at another day.
So for 3 nights and 4 days depending on timing mine would be about £45 total :0

£11.00 a day in my area although have heard of one charging £21 per day but that included training. If staying with a friend I would be more inclined to give a gift. Vouchers seem like a good idea.

The trouble with vouchers is that they still have an obvious monetary value. A gift has no price tag.

The kennels I use charge £10 per dog per day (not night), so to board my 3 Rotties for the time frame you mention would cost £120. All food is provided by them (arden grange).
Thank you everyone and sorry I didn't reply yesterday but didn't get a chance to go on the computer. This is all really useful and I think I will maybe go for a half and half option and give a smaller amount of voucher (one which will not be too embarrassing but still useful) and I love the hamper idea. I thought maybe some chocolates, wine and nice toiletries (ones that you would not normally buy for yourself) - what do you think?
Many thanks
£80 for two fairly large dogs for three nights and 4 days. I dont think thats too bad.

My friends both charge me £8 a day, still about half what the kennels would charge and far better care, so I always buy them a pressie too. :-)

I charge £6 a day to board at home. Kennels in my area are around £11 to £15 per day.

I also take back dogs that i've bred when their owners go on holiday, mine love the company! :) I don't charge, but one grateful owner bought me three 15kg bags of dog food, which were very much appreciated as i have five dogs of my own. Another family put £50 inside a thankyou card but i did feel awkward taking cash when it was my suggestion that she stayed with me. They insisted, saying they'd have paid much more if she'd gone into kennels(two weeks).
