> Just wondering, why would they do this? Is it just this breed?
It's called copping (cropped ears), where a portion (or in some cases ALL) of the ear is removed, I think it also needs splinting, which over-time will result in the sticky-up ears (different than dogs with naturally pointed ears). It's not just this breed :(
It was used in fighting dogs to save thier ears from damage in fights and to stop the other dog dragging then down by the ears :( If you look at pics of pit-bulls, you will see a lot with thier ears cropped right off :(
It does completely change the look of the dog:(
Horrible, horrible, mutilation that there is NO need for :( (obviously some dog that have had injuries/disease in thier ear flaps will have to have thier ears cropped off, but that would be for a medicle reason).
I think some breed standards in other countires call for the ear cropping, but I could be wrong on that. It is illegal in Europe.
ETA, wow I must type slow, there were no other answers when I started typing, LOl!!
