Topic Other Boards / Foo / Help - How to type half?
- By dogs a babe Date 13.07.09 22:50 UTC
Some fabulous person recently posted a hint, using the number pad, to type half.

It was brilliant - I used it for a week, randomly typing the half fraction all over the place, then...    something came along and blew it out of my head!!   I've tried to search for it but as it was buried in thread about something else entirely I can't find it.

Please can someone restore my new found passion for fractions :)

**Whilst I'm at it - where is the little o for temperature degrees and how do I get the accents into some names?  My neice Roisin needs one and Jose Gonzales wants one too.  Thank you xx

If you choose insert and then symbol you will find many fractions, degree signs and the likes.

You can always use the Alt key followed by numbers a lot are listed here but far too many for me to remember...http://usefulshortcuts.com/alt-codes/maths-alt-codes.php

Hold down the Alt key whilst typing 0189 on the numeric keypad. Hey presto - ½! The degree symbol ( ° ) is Alt 0176

I find this site invaluable for accents and symbols.

½   Ooooo - I've always wanted to be able to do that !. Thank you !.

Thank you both very much - just what I needed :)

I've got a report to write later and will find reasons to insert symbols and fractions!  I'm off to update iTunes with proper names now...

What a great site, I don't know if I'm doing it correctly but it's not coming up when I type it. :-(

> the numeric keypad

I am wondering if it is because I have a laptop and don't have a seperate (as on a desktop keyboard) keypad, if this is the case any idea's how else I can do it?
Many thanks
Diane.

On your laptop keyboard (probably top right somewhere) there should be a "Num Lock" (number lock) key, press it and then your numeric keyboard is letters/numbers.

The numbers should be on the front side of the keys. Not sure if it's universal or not but for mine it's:

7(7)8(8)9(9)
u(4) i(5) o(6)
j(1) k(2) l(3)
m(0)

:) (Hope that makes sense!)

You could just make your font smaller for it and do 1/2 if you can't do it any other way.
