I was hoping to show my dog, unfortunately he became ever so slightly lame at 4 months old, 4 months on we have discovered that he has OCD in both his shoulders. He had one operated on last week and might have to have the other one operated on but it doesn't seem too bad at the moment and he isn't showing any signs of lameness on that side, so fingers crossed he won't need more surgery. My question is, is it possible to show him when he is back to full fitness? Would I need to apply to KC for permission and if so, would it be granted?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Sorry to hear your dog has OCD.firstly the answer to your question is?I dont see any problem re showing your dog as there has not been any alterations to his physical appearance.
You didn't say what breed you had,but in my experience it is generally larger breeds who sometimes grow to fast.
I am sure some one on the forum will have had this distressing complaint.
I have seen it labs and gsds.I wish you luck.
Thanks for that. Yes, he is a large breed dog, he's a spinone.
Sorry but I fear you will have to have the other shoulder done as well as time goes on the dog gets heavier so the lameness will become more noticeable that is as I see it but one can't be sure only an xray can determine the outcome.
I don't think it is heredity thing but maybe you may be able to meet some of the other pups and see how they have fared.
Good Luck for the future.

Hi Sullula,
OCD can be hereditary so there may be other pups in the litter with this condition. As for showing your dog, if you apply to the KC for permission to show there is a very strong chance they will not grant it.
The other thing you need to take into consideration is not using this dog for breeding.
