Has anybody else had a massive outbreak of Caterpillars?
Here in the outskirts of Swindon we are under seige, I have never seen so many of the beasts. They're all over the lawns, hedgerows, footpaths, up the walls on the outside of the house fingers crossed they've not come in yet. My runners beans are chomped to pieces even the chickens have got sick of eating them. I think they're Peacock Butterfly caterpillars, we get them every year but usually only in the hedges on the stinging nettles.
Typical though, it's the first year that I've tried growing lots of veg and now it's all being eaten :(

Wow,that's very different from my bit of the world. The opposite from my topic of a couple of months ago when i was saying where have all the caterpillars gone.I still haven't seen any.Not many butterflies either, though a pretty one flew straight through the back door yesterday and i had to help it out of the window.

We've got quite a few butterflies already, lots of what OH tells me are called Painted Ladies and pale looking ones that I used to know as Cabbage Whites, they've been about for quite a few months, we've also got loads of bumble bee's which is good.

Sounds wonderful. :)

We have been growing nasturtiums (sp?) for the beardies (lizards not dogs!) and the entire crop has been devasted in what seems like overnight by caterpillars, we have never come across them near us before, and I would normally be thrilled to see them but the crop has now completely gone (why do they not eat the weeds LOL)

when i took the children to school in the morning i normally sit on a bench until they go in, as i got up and walked toward the gate my friend behind me screamed at me, 'you have two catapilliars on you bottom! ' my other friend kindly lifted them off and put them on a near by bush! So it seems we have a few down here :)
No catapillers but a lot of my garden is under blackfly and greenfly!!

Progress report on the munching plague :(
Runner Beans, what Runner Beans :(
Peppers well between the Chooks and the munchers I've wasted my time there :(
They're starting to pupait (sp) now and I've got little golden bodies hanging all over the place :)
I'd better get some serious amounts of buttlerflies after loosing loads of my veggies.
