Topic Dog Boards / General / As the temperature reaches 35deg in the West Midlands!

As the temp. reaches 35deg in parts of the West Midlands, people are still taking there dogs a walk. The poor dogs have tails down and panting! I have seen Samoyeds with coats so thik I am suprised they have not just past out.
If you have a Samoyed (or know some one who has) and you find it hard to deal with the coat, that has thik under coat, all matted, or the dog has been neutered or spayed. As this makes the coat very thik. I would recommend you do as follows.
Bath him!! I use Asda's Tee tree shampoo and conditioner, any baby shampoo on there face and ears.
Then if you have a wide toothed dog comb, or a dog rack (that is a dog comb that has two sides) When you have bathed him put on the conditioner, comb him in the bath wet, it will go through to the skin with out pulling or giving him pain. Place all the hair in a plastic bag.
When you have done this, try not to get water in the ears. wash of all the conditioner. rub with a dry towl drying the face and ears first.
if you have a blast dryer great if not don't worry. Rub him as dry as you can with a towel. This weather he will dry quickly anyway. Then give him a brush. You will see all the silver tips in his coat also his pink skin. The only problem if you are showing him his coat is a little limp. But! will be beautiful. We are suffering with this heat, imagine what they are feeling like. I have bathed all mine today, it brought the smile back on there faces.

Hi Denese,
I live near Birmingham, and was completely Gobsmacked to see a man in sunglasses riding his Bike with his poor Rottie running along gasping for breath.
What are these idiots thinking of???????
I shouted at him to take poor Dog home before he collapsed, but just got the two fingers.
Im so angry the stupid[ bleep bleep bleep].

it was so hot today, I decided not to take the dog for a walk. she was panting just sitting in the house so we went in the garden to play with the hose pipe.

i went for a 40 minute run at 5.30pm with a highly driven and fit malinois today

we were both fine,

mind you, it was late afternoon, he isnt your average dog, and i have picked apples from the tops of trees midday at 40 degrees, so its doesnt bother me

It has been scorching and the number of dogs I've seen being dragged around town looking miserable in the heat is heartbreaking.

I waited until 9pm last night to take stitch for his evening walk, as it just seemed too hot before for him. He's OK early morn & late eve, but the rest of the time he seems more than content to lie on the kitchen flor or underneath the shrubs in the garden.

Its now peeing down here in Brum now.....I`ve just half hour out in the rain in the garden with the dogs....boy do they stink now! But they thoroughly enjoyed it....Not sure how I`m going to get Tangle clean though lol

Had an e-mail today from CaniX saying not to run your dogs if it gets above 16, so 35 is disasterous!  Throwing it down in Manchester again today and much cooler, it's beautiful, though still need fans etc on in the office.

We waited until 9pm too but the temp was still 23.5 deg outside according to my car.
No usual ball thrown or games played.....just a slow meander!

My boy had a short walk this morning, early as well. It got too hot that i've not bothered walking him this evening. Play isn't on the agenda as its too hot for that as well.
Its very humid now and there is a forecast for rain this evening, so who knows.
Now currently at work and finish at 4am, so may walk him then..

Don't worry it will get cold now, I just managed to get a decent air con unit for the house so that will finish any hot weather this summer

I still have fans on the dogs cages, My mainman just lays in front of it. The trouble is the air is so hot and humid. I keep hosing the slabs out side to cool them and they do have there own parasols lol.
