- By newf3 [gb] Date 30.06.09 15:55 UTC
wasnt this already extened until noon today??
why have they extended again?
- By carolyn Date 30.06.09 16:19 UTC
Brill news I missed this one and its my boys 1st birthday on the day.
- By dollster [gb] Date 30.06.09 19:17 UTC
It was extended to monday at 12 noon, now they have done it till friday at noon

Perhaps with paignton closing the same week, they have both felt the pinch !!

Just out of interest why do they extend? is it because of lack of entries? :)

Will just go and enter my pup :)

Exactly :)  You've gone and given them an extra entry and extra £20 plus! :)  It means those who forget are give an extra chance and they will do it there and then not to miss it again.

I guess also two entries closin the same week some people will feel the pinch and maybe just enter one show ?
- By dollster [gb] Date 30.06.09 20:07 UTC
Exactly, i know alot of the shows have been 500+ dogs down !!
- By ice_queen Date 30.06.09 20:12 UTC
But dollster, when I look at my breed entries are down because we have judges coming up over and over again, we don't bother entering when we know we don't stand a chance.  i don't know if it's the same in other breeds or not but we have to vote with our feet (or plastic!) now.

Also is it just me or are the non weekend days suffering?  I wonder how people are for taking days off?  I wonder if alot of people used to take unpaid leave and now can't afford to!

I am going to Paignton, and was just going to enter the one, but as it's been extended i have entered....could do with the practice!! :)

I think people are getting wise, they want value for money, a good honest judge, who will look at each dog the same way.

People used to got to a show, because it was a lovely show and they 'always' went regardless, but i believe now, and quite rightly so, are more select.

I think everyone gets sick and tired of the same judges , judging week in and week out, on the whole out breed specialist draw a condiderably higher entry.  (Hope so im doing bournemouth LOL).

An average day at a ch show with one dog is a £50 day out, not cheap.  If you have to loose wages as well, its unrealistic !!

i agree entirely all the fun has gone out of showing the majority of exhibitors go hoping to have a fair crack of the whip , but the same dogs are in the dog papers its as if the judges have to follow suit There are a few who do their own thing but not many So with the price of entries going up as well then i think entries WILL drop off and in the end it will be the same dogs having the classes to themselves and no one else in the classes

I think it is unfair that many champ shows don't rotate the groups.
- By GG1 [gb] Date 02.07.09 00:13 UTC
im new but hear so much about entries being down due to the judges already handing out tickets before a dog has entered the ring!! I do hope this is not true, three people told me the breed results the night before a show last week, and they were right!! As a newcommer I pay my fee to be judged fairly!!!!!!!

It is not much different than making an educated Guess as to who might win Wimbledon, it isn't that it is fixed, but people know who the quality winning exhibits are, and even if a new one appears, it is likely to be a pup that will come through the classes to win later.

The ones that don't rotate do it because that day gets the best entry for that group.  I don't know if it is the same these days  but along time ago one champ show secretary explained it to us and it did make sense.  Just unfair on the few.

Of course they do more people can go to a show weekends than not.

For example hounds are always on a weekday for WKC, and several others.  Who is to say they would not get a better entry for the groups schedules on the weekday if they gave them a weekend slot.

It doesn't apply to me, but I know quite a few people in my breed who don't enter the weekday shows, who otherwise would go, and I am sure it is the same for others.  It simply isn't fair.

So the entry for the other groups would reduce on the weekdays, but finally those who have been the poor relation would not have to take time off work to attend those shows. Crufts rotate the days, and I can't say for sure but don't several/most others?  Certainly in my breed the entries are better on the years we get a weekend, so I am sure the same would be true for other breeds.

I didn't mean weeedend days get better entries (although they do of course) but proportionally toy entires are not significantly lower on a weekday to when on a weekend however with I think it was working there was a significant difference.

I do agree it is unfair to some exhibitors but the average entry is higher for the show overall when the groups are "fixed" to a day compared to if they rotate then will get the highest average entry every 3/4 years.

However this was along time ago now I'm sure things have changed alot and maybe some shows should reconsider a trial of roatating.

As for crufts, in my breed the entry is the same for weekday or weekend as Crufts is the major event.
