Hi all.

I am looking to get a combined kennel and run to house what will eventually be 2 German Shepherds. The two will be raised from puppies in and around the kennel, using it mostly when we got out of the house etc. The run can be left open for complete access to an enclosed medium sized garden. (dare i say no danger of escape!!)

My main question is what your views would be as a minimum size requirement for this kennel, and would it need two separate sleeping areas if they are used to being together anyway.

I currently have a very old German shepherd, who bless him is soldiering on so this isnt something that is going to happening immediately, but something i was thinking about for the future.

Regards

I would think that an 8 x 6 shed with as large a run as you have room for would be great. I wouldn't think you'd need separate sleeping quarters, dogs like company.

I do also want to say though that it's rarely a good idea to get two pups together. Many posters on here (including myself) who have vast experience of raising dogs have had problems with littermates or two dogs close together in age. It may be a good idea to get one pup just now while your old dog is around to help teach it manners, when that pup is 2 or 3 you can then think of getting another?

If your having this built to your requirements, I would go for being able to divide the space up if required. You just never know. One could be poorly and need there own space or if they should have a fall out. You have not said if one was to be male and the other female. It goes without saying that you would need seperate quarters then.
