I think this is a trend followed by most pet insurers now.
All of my premiums (Marks & Spencer) have gone up this year, but none worse than the one for our 9-year old pyrenees... He was £54/month last year which I thought was a lot, but just about acceptable for an 8-year old giant breed! But then the renewal came in March, and it doubled going up to £110/month - that's £1300 per year - a lot more than my own health insurance!!! Needless to say, I cancelled the policy and changed. It now means that pre-existing conditions aren't covered, but he is now insured with AXA for £30/month and no percentage to contribute in claims.
I have left all the others with M&S as they all have pre-existing conditions which could potentially become expensive in the future, so I am stuck with them. But if as they get older it becomes unacceptable, then I will have to change them too! I have however started a savings account for our pets where I put an amount away every month.
