One of my birthday gifts this year, which I chose myself,is an oleander shrub.I was figuring out whereabouts in my postage stamp-sized garden,to plant it,and got on the net for advice on what kind if size it would grow to.Appart from the fact that it said they can be a right pain to keep under control, the most worrying thing is that it says that oleander is very poisonous. It also said that there are small varieties, which i think I have.I don't know where the label is.Does anyone know anything about oleander?

I have an Oleander in the garden not sure if it is the same variety as yours but mine has to be taken in the greenhouse in the winter as its not winter hardy. It is a pain in the a**e I have had it 4 years and it has never flowered, it has had plenty of buds on it but then they always dry up and fall off and yes the leaves are poisonous. The only other thing I can tell you about it is that it grows as a road side weed in Portugal and Turkey.

Sorry I can`t be of any more help.

That's plenty of help,Lisa, thanks.I think the one i have(i found the label this morning) is according to the blurb,an easy to grow variety. It already has some flowers on it,still in it's pot. They are small, very pale creamy yellow. It should grow to about 6' tall x 4-6'wide.Do you have to tell your dog/s to stay away from it,or do they avoid it themselves?

I have it well away from the dogs in a fenced off area that I grow veggies :)
