Hi
I would like to know roughly what percentage of golden retrievers are still used for their original purpose as gundogs. If any one could answer this, please send reply to

Many thanks

Quite a few. That’s the answer! No where near as many as in Labradors for example but I know quite a number. My friend has won Field Trials with what was basically a show bred Golden, also with his two working bred Goldens. These dogs do a full season in the field plus some Trials and in the summer some working tests. Apart from these I also know of another eight Goldens who train with my area of the United Retriever Club which are extremely useful dogs.
One thing I would say though. On the shoot I pick up on we are so low laying that the ground is thick mud on the dry parts! In those conditions I would hate to be running a Golden if only because of the mud in the coat!

Regards, John
