I'm hearing more and more dogs called by what i call 'real' human names.
I've now heard of a few dogs called Dave, it makes me giggle when i hear a dog called that. I passed a lady at a local park and she called out to the BC who is called Dave..
Also i'm sure there was a Rotti on DB with Mick Martin called Dave as well.
Anyone else have a dog called Dave or something equally as normal a human name as you can get?

I reeeeally think Dave is a wonderful name for a dog... but OH and Dad are called Dave, so it was out of the question really. Colin would be my second choice, but that's my boss's name. I know someone with an EBT called Phil, again brilliant name. There's just something so comical about dogs with normal human names :-D

Some of these are great dog names, especially yours MM.
I mean it would sound in my mind mad to call a dog Mark, love the name for men, i personally would feel silly calling that out for a dog.. ;-)

We met a great big black lab the other day called Adam.It didn't really suit the dog and I would think it's not that easy to call out in the park.My brother had a wonderful Old English, years ago, called Archie-it suited him perfectly. His first dog,as an adult was a Boxer, called Peter, that was 40 years ago.He now has a mimi black Poodle who goes by the name of Gideon.

My mum frequently gets her 3 children and the 2 dogs names jumbled up. My youngest brother now answers to the name of Tina.

In my family we have had cats called..
Paul (McCartney)
Cliiff (Richards)
Jason (Donovan)
Robbie (Williams)
and nick names awarded to cats replacing their given names.
Richard 111 ( rhyming slang) because he always did the biggest piles I have ever seen come from a cat.
Solomon. Wisdom was not a gift for him he was a complete clown.
my mums lab is called Edward and she hates people shortenning it.....he does suit it though..

There is a very elderly lady who walks her dogs in our local park. Her dogs names are Simon (standard Poodle) & John (westie) hehe :)

I want to call my new pup Oscar but I don't think I'll bother as one of my friends already wants to call him Ozzy !!

Just realised all mine have human names Charlie, Max, Angus and Connor - and of course there was the lovely Sacha.
We also had Jazz, Tia and Tara - not so human?
Must be as a grow up as all the dogs when I was young weren't human names Shady, Sabba, Lucky and Podgey.

I like it too.. Margaret was my mums' name :-)

Date 17.06.09 15:30 UTC

Margaret is a brilliant name too! I think she'd have to be a yellow though, not sure why... I was thinking of Cilla, Wilma or Madge if I ever dare have another bitch!

we have a dillon, lola and britney(sometimes known as legs akimbo! as she constantly lies on her back if male dogs sniff her)

Yay! I'm excited about the potential of a dog having the same name as me now :-) Maggie is a nice name for a dog (I was called Maggie all through school and hated it though - mind you I think I was called a dog too).
Some great names here - I've got Jack and Rory, which has been known to upset some mums when they find out their kid has the same name as a dog. Mwahahaha.

Over the years I've kept dogs with both human and doggie names. Had a Border Collie called Mick (best dog in the world.)
At present I have a Polly, Sophie, and a Wilf. But I also have a Chipper, a Snoopy, a Cupcake and a Pumpkin.
The only human name I ever found inappropriate was when someone picked up their new puppy from me and called him Trevor! Trevor?? For a dog?

For 8 weeks I had been calling him Pooh Bear! :-) :-) :-)
I have a yorkie called Dennis and groomed a lurcher yesterday called Stewart.

Mine are George, Henry & Ellie - Dave would be a good name - Dave for normal, Davey for cuddles, and DAVID for naughty! :-D

I was at a show once and called Tina (Yorkie), and a lady called Tina was most insulted! :-)

Hehehehe Trevor was on my short-list for current puppy's name! It didn't suit him though, you'll be pleased to know :-D

I don't like human names for dogs, but Pugs seem to have them and boy they really do suit them.

We did have a Pom called Melvyn, his kennel name was Delvyn Melvyn :)

The more I think about it.. the more I am liking it.. (watch this space) :-)
while we all have our call names for dogs.. It just came to me that our KC names sometimes come as a shock.. normally I name my pups.. but this litter, stumped for ideas, my owners had a hand in naming them..
But years ago, when I bought Megan.. there was a mix up with KC paperwork, (breeder didnt send correct amount on cheque, so was sent back) it was about 6 weeks after I brought Megan home, I received her papers.. and her name (chosen long before I chose her).. was..
Craigour
Kay :-)

I met a gorgeous red Staffy called John once, his owner was sat at the ringside saying things like "Ok John we can do this" and " Relax now it's only an open show" so thinking it was his first show (it was my fourth open show) I sat next to him and started telling him not to be nervous etc. Felt such a fool when he said it was John's second show but he had been showing for yeeeears! :-D :-D :-D
Until I had Bedlies I never gave my pets human names - they were always made up or very obscure. Nearest I got was my Affie X's name BrĂ¢n - from the Mabinogion (he was Welsh and Raven Black! )
Now my girls all have human names :-D

Mine is called Stanley, and it really suit's him, everybody knows him he get's christmas cards to Stanley and family and our cat is called Oliver so Stan and Ollie...

I forgot about the family cats.John and I had a cat called Dora, which was so right for her. When my younger girl's cat was due to have her litter,we were thinking up names and as we always give our pets a middle name,we decided that the kits would all be called Kate as a second name.So we had Alfie Kate,Babs Kate,Bert Kate and Mary Kate!Poor things :)

interesting spelling of Loukar moonmaiden its the same as my surname except my surname is without the ar . Any reason you chose it we dont usually come across luke spelt like that I would be interested to know.
OH yes and as for dogs and human names I had a Lisa Josie and now Mia

Not a dog,but the kids Ferret is named Cedric.
