How can you qualify for crufts at a breed champ show?
I am bracing myself for a drive to UK later this year.

The same as any other Champ show with CCs available for the breed.

Beware though certain classes won't qualify you at champ shows even with CC's on offer as i realised this weekend myself..
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.06.09 07:20 UTC
But they're the same classes all the time. There's nothing different about single-breed champ shows or general champ shows. As long as CCs are on offer the same classes are qualifiers.

Can you tell me which classes will/ wont? And do you need the cc or any other position in class.
I really dont know.
I have been to crufts but that was with best puppy in show qualification.

Generally speaking it's 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, Post Graduate, Limit, Open or Veteran.

Great, thank you, reckon I will enter her in lots of classes from junior up and see what happens.
She can be scrubbed on the day if necessary from doing too many.

I'm not sure the rules allow that, but even so it's not a good thing to enter too many classes. Your dog will get very tired and very bored because the qualifying classes tend to be big so there's a lot of hanging around while the judge goes over the 'unseen' dogs. Limit has CC winners and Open has Champions so competition can be very 'hot'.

That all depends on the breed though JG, At our club champ shows your lucky to get 4/5 in some classes!  Sometimes I would look at entering a young dog in limit and open if needed to qualify as these sometimes only have a couple of dogs in them   Also as a seen dog, depending on the stewards and judges if it's  hot day you will only have to be in the rng at the start and finsh and keep the dog in a shaded area near by to stop having seen dogs hang around.  again depends of stewards and judge.

Fair point. In my breed Post Grad (graveyard class!) can have 30+, with Limit and Open being 25 or so.

I was starting to worry when I saw Yearling wasn't listed on JeanGenie's list of classes that can qualify for Crufts as have been on cloud 9 since Southern Counties when my Lola got a 3rd in Yearling!

Then I researched and found this post: http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/board/topic/64838.html

It's a few years old now, but I presume it still applies.

Hope that helps

yes, it still applies.. I was about to add the yearling classes for Band 'E', but you beat me too it :-)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.06.09 10:24 UTC
One year it was only 1st and 2nd that qualify; the qualifications needed for Crufts 2010 aren't yet published, but it's likely they'll be the same as last year.

There are very few breeds in Band E, aren't there?
- By JoBoxer [gb] Date 16.06.09 10:37 UTC
There are not many breeds in Band E at all - I don't know what there is a Band E for and why there are only certain dogs that apply to this rule, if anyone knows, I'd love to know.

Also, how does a boxer become lifetime qualified for Crufts? I've seen some that are and don't know how that happens?

Thanks!
Jo

Either by gaining a CC, RCC, Junior Warrant or by being 1st,2nd or 3rd in Limit or Open :)

Thanks Gemma :)

Around 10% of breeds are in the E band

Hound Group - Afghan Hound, Whippet
Gundog Group - Irish Setter, Retriever (Flat Coated), Retriever (Golden), Retriever (Labrador), Spaniel (Cocker)
Terrier Group - Border Terrier , Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Pastoral Group - Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Shetland Sheepdog
Working Group - Boxer, Dobermann, Great Dane, Rottweiler
Toy Group - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

These are the most popular show breeds & frequently have entries of over 200 + dogs at shows. The more dogs shown usualy the harder te competition & the number of good of dogs shown is usually higher so to acknowledge the quality of the dogs shown the more opportunites are available to gain a stud book number.

The Crufts qualifying classes are the same for all breeds except for the E band breeds were Yearling is an added qualifying class.

In some breeds you only have to turn up to qualify for Crufts because of the low entries & if all breeds had the same Stud Book entry qualifications there would be a problem for judges & possibly more places having to be withheld due to the low quality of the dogs & the judges not feeling that these dogs should have a Stud Book number awarded.

So very much a minority then. Thanks for the explanation of why, though.

Papillons have just been added to band 'E', but apart from the Crufts qualifying classes this also means that the lesser qualified judges can now judge upto 5 classes in the breed at an open show instead of only three.
