I have recently purchased a piece of magnetic jewellery to see if any of the health benefits will work for me - my mum swears by them.  I was having a browse online tonight and read somewhere that magnetic devices (e.g. collars) can interfere with microchips in the same way as magnets can cause problems with credit cards and stuff like that.  Is it true?

No it isn't. I did a test, both with microchips implanted in animals and ones not implanted. It didn't interfere at all, not even placing two magnets on top of a microchip made it malfunction.

Some yars ago Robert Killick and Rory Frost of the National Tattoo Register did test out how effective micro-chips were and one thing they did was try to affect the micro-chip by placing magnets by it. I think they succeeded but that was in the early days of micro-chipping. Perhaps you could write and ask Robert about this, (he has a weekly column in Our Dogs), also you could ask the micro-chip manufacturers.

I don't know about interferance but good luck with the braclet.  My dad and brother have them for their Asthma and they both notice a different when they are wearing them :)

I do find it funny my younger brother (19 yrs) wears something advertised mainly for arthiritus though :-O

I was looking at them for someone else for arthiritis and found on the website that they can be helpful in managing thyroid symptoms so I am giving it a go.

that is reassuring to hear that there is no link between magnets and chips.
