To open a tin of sardines!!!
Just opened one of those oblong tins with the ring-pull peel off top and YET AGAIN I have a sweatshirt to wash as it got a splatter of oil from the last itty bitty bit of lid as is went ping and came loose. I have tried all ways even putting Zans dish down in the sink and opening tin down in it but I STILL end up getting a few blobs of oil. I am not normally cack-handed but I need help.......... :-D

Try this :- http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/sardine+can+opener/product/4418

Their products are generally marvellous!

Ta for the link but I don't really need anything to pull the ring, its just how to stop the oil flying (even when I drain the oil out first) as the last bit of lid seperates from the tin. I usually mush the sardines up in the tin & then tip onto kibble.
I think I will need to part open the tin - tip contents out unmushed - then bin the metal as it is.
I just got so annoyed as it happens virtually every time I open a tin and I keep getting extra laundry :-D

I find the only thing to do is leave the lid very slightly attached to the tin, and not try to remove it completely. Not much help, I'm afraid!

Oh how i know what you are saying here, the worst is when you open up the tomato one..
Its not as bad if you don't try and pull the lid off completely as JG has said. But still you are not the only one, either that or we are both have problems.. ;-)

I use a swathe of cling film to protect myself from splash attacks :)

(draped over the tin... not me!! ;))

lol... lot of work for some sardines.. and think of all the talc you'd need...

The only really effective way to make sure you don't get oil on your clothes is to take them all off.:)
The second best way is to get someone else to do it.Honestly-it works!

Or, face it away from you so it splatters something easier to wipe,  ie tiles. Same prob with yoghurt! :-)

To open a tin of sardines!!!

I completly agree

The ones i get i cant use the tin opener on them and it usually results in me needing to get changed

Sticking to the pichards instead

> To open a tin of sardines!!!

In the sink, inside a plastic bag.  If I'm careful I can seal the end of the bag and pull through the plastic.  Less likely to splash oil everywhere and less likely to slice my finger at the same time.  It doesn't help that the sight of these things sends my boys into a tizzy of delight and they're trying to help me get the can open faster...  :)

Thanks for the suggestions,

HG - apart from the talcum I would need to start doing his tea when he hadn't had dinner to get into that

Poppity I would have to get OH to do it and would end up with his laundry instead of mine and the second idea would put OH and dog off their teas ............

Dogs a babe Think I may try the plastic bag - sainsbury carrier - with the opening away from me otherwise its not pull the lid right off.
Thanks, Chris

omg yes awful things not sure if they are worse or better with ring pulls. Opened a couple of cans yesterday for the dogs and ended up cobered and then still scooping out the contents with my fingers !
