Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bloat - Misty in vets
- By Boxacrazy [in] Date 09.06.09 03:59 UTC
I came home yesterday lunchtime to find my oldest veteran in trouble with bloat :(
Misty is an 11yo Boxer.

I walked in and saw sick, toileting etc, and her down with a tummy very round and bloated.
I knew instantly what it was, got on the phone and told my vets I was bringing her in and that she'd got bloat.

I've had a really long time (almost 7pm) before the phone call came from the vet that operated on Misty to say that she'd pulled through the op.
The next 24 hours are now critical.

The vet said her tummy looked bruised but not black and her spleen was twisted slightly but they have unravelled it and they are happy
with how it looked. Her colour from almost white is now normal pinky.

We now wait to see if Misty wants to pull through, my vets have done all they can to try and flush her system of the toxins that may comprimise
her recovery, whether her heart is strong enough to pull through and have cleaned out her windpipe of all the vomit etc.

Please please keep Misty in your thought's, and I hope to God she pulls through, I am now waiting for that long time til 8.30am-8.45am to learn if Misty
has survived the night. Althou have made the vet promise to ring me at anytime to let me know if she does go down hill.
To top it all off I have been suffering with tonsilitis and now I feel worse than ever :(

So hoping for a good outcome and I feel so guilty that I went to work yesterday when I almost stayed home as I felt so naff.
Vet said it was lucky that I did go home at lunchtime as if she'd have been left she would have been dead before my OH got home :(
I told her I always go home at lunchtimes for my dogs.

Well done for being so prompt in your actions - you can't blame yourself for not taking the day off work sick!!

I'm glad she's come through the op, and all fingers crossed for her here.

So sorry to hear this but just think of the great 11 years that Misty had.
- By Teri Date 09.06.09 11:18 UTC
Sincere sympathy to you Kirstine - words at this time can't begin to bring solace but perhaps knowing that others care and share in your grief will be of some small comfort.

Misty will be forever in your heart and has many wonderful friends to welcome her at the Bridge.

God bless & {{{hugs}}}

So very very sorry to hear about Misty, i know exactly what you went through, we lost Lardo to Bloat (Torsion) 31st May 2009, he was fine all morning and had his breakfast a small meal, then hours later we notice foam coming out of his mouth, stood him up and he was huge, i have never seen bloat but knew what Lardo had, i knew we were is serious trouble, got him to the vet which is 2 minutes away but he faded on the table, all within 15 minutes of us spotting it.
We are totally gutted and in disbelief, take care hunxx they will be playing together over the rainbow bridge.
Torsion is the worst thing i have ever seen and never want to see it again he was only 5 years old, God love him x
- By ClaireyS Date 09.06.09 12:07 UTC
I am so sorry to both of you for your losses, I experienced torsion with my 5 year old about a month ago I feel so lucky that he pulled through it is such an evil thing that you really cant do anything about.
- By MandyC [gb] Date 09.06.09 13:12 UTC
Oh i am so sorry for your loss, and to you too annastasia...this condition is terrible and is one that we are all so frightened of, it can be so quick that somethimes there is just nothing we can do. Both your babies were really loved throughout their lives and you were both the best mums they could of had.
I hope they are playing with friends gone before them, painfree and happy x
- By Pedlee Date 09.06.09 14:16 UTC

- By pavlova [gb] Date 09.06.09 14:22 UTC
I,m so sorry to hear about poor Misty.
What a lot of dogs have been poorly this week I,ve heard of at least three with bloat and one poor lad with a full torsion horrible for everyone concerned its always a dread of mine.
Please dont blame yourself as it can happen to anyones dog at any place and any time.
- By Perry Date 09.06.09 14:24 UTC
So sorry to hear about your girl :(  run free at the bridge Misty x
- By crinklecut [gb] Date 09.06.09 14:32 UTC
So very sorry to hear this. Bloat & Torsions are among some of the worst conditions our four-legged friends can experience. You did all you could and got Misty to the vet as soon as you saw her. My heart goes out to you. Run free Misty.
