Some of you will know that I have just had my first experience of an overdue litter.

Day 13 today and eyes are open in all pups.  But I was gobsmacked when the largest boy crawled over to Mum's puppy food, got in the dish and laid in it licking the food.  I've always believed in them telling me when they are ready for weaning, but this was a big surprise.  He then tried to stand up!

I guess this is because they're really over 13 days - if you see what I mean!  Have any of you experienced overdue litters, with pups that appear to be ahead of themselves?  Hope that makes sense!

I suppose what you're seeing is the opposite of pups born early?

Yours have been 'cooked' for longer and as you say are really 'older' :)

sounds like they're strong and lusty - the best kind :-D

I have had pups whith eyes still closed get into Mums dish and lick the food. I think it is just an instinct. They know it is food and if it's good enough for Mum!! Don't forget in the wild first solids would be regurgatated by Mum and if she has her head down and eating they are drawn towards it by instinct alone.
