Oh yes, they do look horrid but cherish your Stag Beetle for they are a protected species.

Are you sure it wasn't a May Bug.....horrible things!  Loads of them flying around during the evenings.

my hub found a stag beetle in the kitchen sink last night! he put it outside and it flew off. i love those beetles, they spend 4 years as grubs and are very rare now sadly

Sounds as though it was a May Bug, otherwise known as a Cockchafer. They're big buggers aren't they.

May Bugs, YUK!!! I've caught & removed 2 from inside the house in the past few days, (glass at arms length, paper slipped under bottom of glass with bug safely inside, then out to the bottom of the garden). So far yet tonight I haven't heard them crashing into my kitchen window panes - gosh they make me jump. I'm not keen on creepy-crawlies, but ones that can fly really freak me out.

I've never seen a stag beetle :(

Right,that's it!I'm shutting all the windows and doors and putting cling film allround the outside of the house so the beggars can't get in. Mind you i won't be able to get out,but it's a small price to pay to make sure one of those thingys doesn't land on me.Cripes!!!!
