Avon's Skin So Soft appears to work, in fact they have started to do an actual spray with added SPF etc. for this very job:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avon-Skin-So-Soft-Guard-Expedition-Spray/dp/B001GRV9OW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore&qid=1243951874&sr=8-1

If buying the regular spray, make sure you get the right scent as they do a few. It's they green/blue one you need:

http://avonshop.co.uk/product/bath-and-bodycare/skin-so-soft/skin-so-soft-soft-and-fresh-dry-oil-body-spray.html

Reduced to £3.00.

Might make the coat a bit oily though.

A BIG oil burner with citronella oil works. We have 2 on the go when sitting in the garden.

Here in north scotland we know how to treat midges. Avon skin so soft (blue) even when I am on a shoot all the men use it.

Jungle Formula is pretty good, they do sticks, lotions and sprays.
Says it can be used on babies over 6 months , I know daughter has used it on her dogs with no problems.
