Has anyone heard of a child having measles in spite of having been vaccinated.  My 18month old grandson has been really off colour for a few days - ran a temperature the other evening.  He was looking pale and heavy eyed when he came over this afternoon.  Quarter of an hour later we could see a patchy rash on his forehead.  It had started to go down his back and a few spots across his tummy.  It looks like a measles rash.  He wouldn't let us look into his mouth.  I can't think what else it could be - any ideas?  I am a bit rusty on childhood illnesses.

Yes, vaccinated children can get measles, just as people can have measles more than once (my grandmother had it 6 times). Luckily it isn't usually as virulent in these cases, but you still need to take care. Keep the child out of bright light, and call the doctor to check, because if it is measles it needs to be reported.

My daughter took him to the doctor today - she was told it is 'just a virus'!  She bumped into another mum with a child in the same playgroup - also ill and the rash just coming out today.  He is still poorly today but at least she has had him checked out.  Fancy getting measles 6 times - must have had bad luck with immunity.  It was his response to the bright light that made me think it might be measles.

My son was vaccinated as a child. When he was 15 he took measles and the doctor refused to look at him :-( He actually stood at the other end of the room and told my M-I-L off for taking him to hospital. Where else would she have taken him? The zoo? ;-)  He was seriously ill with it. The doctor was given a written warning regarding his conduct, by the way.

If he's photosensitive with this virus (and measles is a virus, after all!) I'd still keep him in a darkened room to be on the safe side and nurse him as for measles.

My granddaughter age 2 is just getting over chickenpox, its raging where we live, I also noticed a smaller rash on her today and it looks like a measles rash, but with the hot weather it could just be a heat rash.
