My 3 1/2 year old yorkie, Jake, has just had what I am sure is a fit. He has never had one before and hasn't showed any signs of being ill at all, but he has appreared exciteable over the last few days but I had put that down to us being in the garden more than usual. It only lasted a couple of minutes and he did not collapse, he made strange movements with his front paw and he was shaking. What could cause the onset of fits? My husband has just told me Jake ate about 3 squares of chocolate on Wednesday could it be that or would that have caused problems before now? Also as I posted on another thread my neighbour has just installed an anti bark sensor, could that cause it, the sensor has been there since Monday so I would have thought any problems would have shown by now. I am worried about him but as he has completely recovered I am thinking he will be ok till tomorrow to visit the vet but I have his insurance details to hand ready incase he should need to go in a hurry.

Doesn't quite sound like a fit, although they can vary in severity. Cause is either genetic, brain injury of some sort (such as a tumour) or in the majority of cases, it's unknown.

Here's a website that describes the symptoms of chocolate poisoning:

I hope Jake will be okay. If it happens again, film it so you have something to show the vet as otherwise it will be virtually impossible for the vet to make a diagnosis -chances are any tests like blood samples etc will be entirely normal.

Has he got overheated in this weather ?

Its hard to give opinions online as you can't see and of course none of up are veterinarians. However, if i was to guess by your post i would say it was the hot weather.

Ditto the last post,i was thinking the same. It's been very hot the last few days and my dogs have been drinking loads.
do you think he's been drinking enough? if he's been excited in the garden then he'll over heat very quickly.
Lets hope thats all it is but i'm sure the vet will have better advise.

Hi all, thanks for replies. Jake has been fine since not shown any signs that he is ill. It may have been the heat. I am to just keep eye on him as there are no obvious signs and if it happens again then go to vets. He did worry me for a while but he is back to getting into mischief so I know he is ok. Thank you
