Topic Dog Boards / General / Which sex will go with my two?
- By Tricolours [gb] Date 30.05.09 18:13 UTC
Im thinking of getting another dog, i already have a bitch of 8yrs & a dog of 5yrs both been neutered, you have to agree to that when you get them from the RSPCA!

My dog would love to play with my bitch but she is not really interested in him, all though she loves to play ball with us. But saying that when she is in the mood she will chase him around the garden in fun, & they do sleep together. So i was wondering which sex to go for this time? so what do you think dog or bitch? All replies welcome.

Maybe a bitch a couple of years younger than your dog,so she is playful enough for him, but able to hold her own if he gets a bit too rowdy. It sounds as if the older girl is choosy now about playtime, but she is still good with the dog.She might appreciate a bit of the attention taken off her when he wants to play. Also the dog already likes playing with the girl so he is good with females by the sound of it.Hope they all have fun together when you finally choose.

not sure there's a right answer for this one,all depends on your dogs.
i've got a 9 yr male, 4yr female and 11 month female and it's taken a few weeks for the 4yr bitch to be comfortable with the new bitch.
Some dogs just can't cope with puppies as their too bouncy, this was the problem i had so i had to teach the pup she couldn't do this to my other bitch. Also the new pup has taken second position in the pack after a little fight (not a really bad one) but luckily for me my older bitch has excepted this and now they've all settled down.
The only time things can get silly is if the two girls are in a confined space and the older one can't get away, so i've had to sleep them apart for my own peace of mind.
You need to make sure you give all your dogs time away from the pup so that they can get used to it and also with your bitch being a lot older she may not want to be jumped on etc.
My youngest learnt  her lesson very quickly with the male and he only has to do certain body language and she knows he doesn't want to play, this is great as she knows he's in charge and just walks away.   the rest of the time they all get on really well you just need to keep on top of things.
good luck with your new pup, whatever you decide to get.

i would say bitch, though of course it depends how your dogs are with either sex. i would say a bitch though as your current bitch is older so clashes are unlikely, your dogs playful do a younger bitch (you didn't mention pup or rescue?) might be more up for a play, and since your dogs been neutered fewer worries with seasons (if shes not a rescue).

I want to go for a pedigree puppy this time, maybe a parson russell. My dog is a jack russell cross & im wondering whether 2 terrier dogs (dog or bitch) with get on, as i dont want any fighting.

Terriers can be up for a bit of a spat, so I would say bitch as it is very few males that will fight with bitches.

If your looking for  terrier I would say bitch.  Parson Males can be abit funny with other males and have to be watched but round bitches they are fine.  Of course this is only my experiance and I have also seen exceptions to the rule!
