Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Suitable age for the sire?

Currently looking at a puppy in a litter.
The dam is 2.5 years old and the sire is 20 months old, 1st litter for both the parents.
Is this a suitable age for the sire? I was wondering if it was bit young :S Its a small breed.
The breeder is a member of the breed club though, and is doing the appropriate health tests, so I presume she knows what she is doing.

Our first dog was a spur of the moment decision from an advert in Pets At Home.
We've had no problems whatsoever with him but trying to do everything 'right' this time for our second dog!

Depends on the breed. If it's a Cavalier, then it's a no -each parent should be at least 2 ½ years old the first time they are bred from. Other breeds there should be no problem.

Ditto above & in fact the older the father the better with Cavaliers

Good good. The breed isn't Cavaliers.

Just out of interest, why the special case for Cavaliers?
Is it to do with ensuring they haven't got certain health (heart?) problems?
